This story does have a happy ending though. Ironically it was the barbarism of the westerners that ultimately saved Japan.

The Japanese people had been infected with the bloodlust and they began to commit many atrocities. Eventually the barbarians bombed them into submission during World War 2 and it would seem like this would be the end of the story for Japan, but the Japanese people rose out of the flames of Hiroshima and Nagasaki like a phoenix in its rebirth.

Under the conditions of the treaty the barbarians crippled their military, they disallowed them ever creating anything more than a defensive army, and they stationed their own western military force on their land, but this adversity was actually the key to their salvation.

The bloodlust that the westerners had infected them with was now sated and they quickly returned to the ways of the ancients. Intelligence thrived in this newly formed Japan, cities of great wealth and prosperity formed in only a matter of decades, and Japan grew to become a nation filled with some of the most intelligent scientists and intellectuals that the world has ever known. They are now a nation of peace that strives for intellectual advancement rather than advancement through bloodshed.

Would you sacrifice yourself and your country to save Japan?

Imagine that your country is in a war with Japan and they're about to launch many nuclear missiles at Japan which will completely destroy the country, killing every mangaka, idol, and every single Japanese person you have ever cared about.

For whatever reason you are in a position to stop this, but the only way to do so is to detonate the warheads before they're launched, which would destroy your own country and kill you in the process.

Would you do this?
