This is what I get for trusting monogame extended objects to do what the sound like they do. You'd assume, because there is no documentation, that NinePatchRegion2D would take a texture and divide it up into a 3x3 grid of equally sized parts, but I guess it doesn't. I'll just have to chop up the tiny 48x48 border into 9 16x16 parts myself.

The monogame spritebatch class can't remove the alpha pixels, or rather I cannot set the blend tolerance to 0. I'll need to write a shader.
