What I think it is, is that SERIOUSLY THIS IS MY BEST GUESS, THIS MIGHT REALLY SPOIL THE STORYhe proposed marriage to Shannon (or ShKannon, if she already had the split personality), saying that she'd finally have the Ushiromiya name, or something like that. By abandoning the island, and the Ushiromiya name, he was basically saying FUCK YOU to the proposal that he didn't remember. 6 years of FUCK YOU echoing in your head tends to make you a bitter person.

Again, though, without sexual abuse, I can't figure out why Yoshiya/Kanon would come to be, and R07 usually prefers his stories to be devoid of torrid things like that.
