It was a really bad decision (one of the many) for Hitler to ally with japan. Germany enjoyed a pretty beneficial coorperation with china for like 30 years before WW2, with china selling germany important strategic material like tungsten and crap, while germany helped the ROC in modernizing it's troops.

Then comes axis, so germany broke off the coorperation to get friendly with japan. But come to think of it they got nothing out of the whole deal. Got no help from japan in WW2, had to start fighting the US cos of pearl harbor, 2 front war etc.
