No you have a point. Societally if a garment hard-edged, made of stiff materials, conservative in the amount of skin revealed, or even simply dark in color, it will be viewed as masculine. If something soft, flowing, delicate, revealing, or even simply pastel in color, we consider it feminine. In reality, it really does boil down to the vibes, and while there are classical depictions of both, the styles have varied wildly throughout history. More than anything else, the real challenge is in just finding options beyond the basics -- once you do, you can do whatever you like.
