Eye color is the only thing you can really comment on in terms of similarities between their sprites. And then this isn't something unique or exclusive to them, George and Jessica have the exact same eye color as Kanon and Shannon, and it's not just them either, a lot of other characters have it as well. You look at both of their sprites overlapping and you'll see that their bodies are portrayed to be pretty different. They are aligned at their eyes and the eye shape is one thing that is near identical, aside from that Kanon seems to have a smaller body and bigger face. You can easily explain why the sprites are different but the point is that their sprites don't hold any clues, besides other characters also have very similar eye shape

I didn't mean to say that he never uses any sort of storytelling at all in his sprites, that was just bad wording my part, I meant that he never uses the sprites as means to cleverly disguise some clues or references that will point someone to a solution or things that you'll be able to notice and go like "wow this hidden clue was under my nose all along" like he does in his stories(The whole thing with Shannon wearing the dress is a good example). There are no CG with clues and sprites don't hold any either, I've watched some of my friends read Umineko Project and almost everyone was trying to look for something hidden every time a CG came up, I had to explain it to them that it's not how you solve anything

The red gem thing could turn out to be absolutely correct, it's just weird and counterintuitive to me because he's never done something like this
