He translated it as crush to try and pass it off as canonically romantic, and then later made a half-hearted correction to admitting it doesn't explicitly mean romantic, but he knew that before. It wasn't about being truthful or giving an accurate translation, but pushing ideas he personally likes as canon. No one cares about the correction made and hidden, but the initial falsehood shouted. He doesn't even hide his bias since his twitter is full of shipping pics of the character.

Now you have various places online (example: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/TouhouJuuouenUnfinishedDreamOfAllLivingGhost)) touting this as Touhou's first canon lesbian character, because after so many years ZUN has just finally decided to reverse his general avoidance of romance and shipping material.

Sorry anyone who wanted to use this character, shippers have already started asserting their headcanons as canon. Maybe TH20.
