Portia is awesome, but I'm more of a Gasteracantha fan. Half tank, half spider, all awesome.

Anelosimus is pretty cool too.

Is it bad that the first two things I noticed was that the legs were connected to the abdomen instead of the cephalothorax and that the bee seemed to have 2 wings instead of 4?

Here's a spider I truly like. Like that moe spider, this one is an active bee hunter - it doesn't weave webs. Its thick armor defends it from bee stings, so the critter is free to pounce on bees, grab on and liquify them.

Wasps and the sort often prey on spiders, but this fellow, Gasteracantha mammosa, has a way to turn the tides. Instead of building a web and waiting for prey to bumble along, this spider hunts exclusively by biting down its quarry. Encased in thick armor, it can easily capture bees and is unaffected by their stingers.

>The predatory behavior of Gasteracantha mammosa (Araneae: Araneidae) was investigated. This species did not immobilize its prey by wrapping at all, and always immobilized them by biting. It could capture bees, though they stung it. The spider seemed not to be influenced by the stinging at all, perhaps because of the hard body.
