Okay, this theory is still a bit raw, but I think it works.
Every person on the island was actually Kinzo in disguise. The relatives, with the exception of Eva and Battler, drowned on their way to the island and Battler got brain damage. That is why their remains were never found.
Kinzo then got very sad and started reenacting his long awaited family conference on his own, and in the end killed himself with a bomb, once his depression became too heavy to bear.
