Before magpie was created I used to do:
OBS RTMP server (or another method) -> mpv with various shaders
I only have 1 monitor so I had to make mpv clickthrough as well.

Thank you. Got too excited about the snow and did not read. My rtmp config used to restart occasionally too but I was never too bothered as I've become too lazy to do timelapses

The snow is lovely. First of the season. Been waiting for this.

Is there a known direct stream url for Yunokami-Onsen Station now that the rtmp link has retired?
I had my player pointed to it and automated a lot so it's saddening to see the direct stream being gone.

Oh I get what she's doing now they have unlisted youtube streams and luna is using window/browser capture. A lot messier than just using separate RTMP streams

rtmpdump works for a lot of them. I think ffmpeg can open quite a few streams directly as well.
for example, with the yunokami onsen camera,

rtmpdump -r "rtmp://114.160.7.45/livepkgr/live-cam003" --live -o myfile.mp4 --stop 60

or, using ffmpeg

ffmpeg -i "rtmp://114.160.7.45/livepkgr/live-cam003 live=1" -an -c:v copy -t 60 myfile.mp4

will grab 60 seconds of video.

I had some difficulty getting different programs to take the "live=1" or "--live" parameter - without it, the server will reject and throw an error.

For other cameras that just provide a stream of still images, you can capture these with curl usually, or ffmpeg. The issue with these is that they don't provide metadata so your capture file won't have framerate in it and you'll have to edit it in afterwards.
