I've never queried YouTube for chat data, but I notice that live chat replay doesn't exist for most videos. Is it YouTube policy to not keep chat data around very long, or is it WN who is purging the chat data? Also, is there a public API endpoint for the chat data, or do you have to get an API key from Google and auth with them before they give you that data?

mpv and yt have lots of options to help with cache and get more information and such. get ffmpeg as well to turn .ts into .mp4 files, and to make your own clips

Yes, chat is gay, but this has also been affecting moderator (other holo girls) chats. I saw a comment in Gura's 2m karaoke stream that listed all those chats from Ame/Marine/Cali that happen in live chat and are now gone from the replay. I was curious just how bad it is, so I wrote a script to count how many chats were sent in live chat during Ame's Short Hike stream, and did the same for chat replay 12 hours later.
Chats sent live: 50132
Chats in live replay 12h later: 20638
More than half the chats are gone now. So for those that post screenshots of moderator chat after the stream, you're doing a good job for archival purposes.

It happens on every VOD. I was watching Reine's House Flipper stream earlier and only half of Moona's comments appear in the chat replay, even with it set to Live Chat. Youtube fucked something up a couple weeks back.

Is youtube still deleting comments? Replay chat isn't nearly as fast as the overlay inside the streams I watch regardless of top/live replay.
