>By the way, I've always wondered is there any trick to memorize things
I don't think it's much different from memorizing a combination to a safe or answers for a test. Repeat it until you do it instinctively (even if you don't know exactly why) or come up with a mnemonic that makes sense to you (even if only to you)

A popular thing to do in all shmups is line yourself up with some element of the HUD. In Touhou, that's normally something in the background image. These are mostly used for consistency on precise strats (a well-known example being the N in Enemy for the Starbow Break safespot), but you can use it to help patterns stand out. If you find that there's a good place on the screen to be during a spell, see if there's a dot, line, or splotch of color in the BG close by and make a mental association.

One thing I'm particularly fond of is likening the movement you make to some shape or thing. My go-to is characters (U or L for streaming, C or D for macrododging, V or Y for misdirecting, etc.), but you can get super poetic here if you want. If the way you move reminds you of crashing waves, or falling leaves, or whatever else, take note of that.

And then another thing you can do is add congruence to your routing. Let's say all the post-midboss stage sections in stages 1-4 have streaming sections, but the stage 4 section DEMANDS you start it from the right side and you're having trouble remembering that. What you can do is see if the stage 2 section can be done from the right side, and if it can, instead of having to specifically remember stage 4, you can now remember "odd stage left, even stage right", giving you three additional places to drill it in. Generally, if you can reuse a strat, do so.

If you can't tell, memo is one of my favorite aspects of the genre. It gives every game its own unique rhythm and technique while letting you add your own personal touch.

I don’t know, probably not. But, I don’t think that the snark scene can lead to a conclusion about that. Magical energy is the fuel that allows them to create miracles (magecraft) and the magical circuits are the ending that process that energy from mana and od into the one they use in spells.
Even if True magic was dependent on the magical circuits, the power it would demonstrate is only reflected by the amount of energy it requires to perform its function.
For example:
Blacklight Starbow required a shit ton of magical energy, but maybe Blue would require less to activate in a way that would destroy Snark.
Aoko’s circuits were at their limit in that scene, but without knowing the magical energy consumption of Blue (if it requires it), it cannot be assumed that, because activating it would result in a greater effect, it would somehow require her circuits to perform even more (which is impossible), therefore proving that it does not require them.

Also, in the final fight, Touko mentions that time travel would’ve required immense amounts of energy, which led her to begin questioning Soujyurou’s missing five minutes. Of course, Touko could simply be wrong in her hypothesis, but should she be correct, it could point that either:
It requires magical energy and Aoko had to suplente it
It doesn’t require magical energy, which is why Aoko was able to pull it off.

Personally, since this is something you do by pulling on a connection to the Root, I believe that magical circuits are not required. But if anyone has another point of view they would like to share…

Flandre, amazing theme and great spellcards. I especially like how the safespot on Starbow Break lets me rest my hands for a bit.

The fairies get easier to dodge if you are at the center of the screen when the two fairies shot and then go down but the best strat is clearly what >>43880261 says.

For catadioptric I keep myself around the lower right corner I think its the place where less bullets reach you and you still deal can decent damage with non homing shots.

For the clock I always try to be at the bottom center at the start of each "clock" appearing, for the first I go asap to the left.
The second is trickier but you also want to go fast this time to the right but this time it's harder to dodge the bullets so you have to zigzag a bit in the corner.
For the last one you have to move up(around a quarter of the screens height aprox) from the middle and move slightly to the side to avoid incoming bullets.

Just played to check how I dodged them and failed terribly at everything until I finished cranberry trap and then did all perfectly till starbow break where I had to bomb just to get destroyed in until there where none.
Then I retried and did the stage fine reaching Flan with 4 lives but messed up a ton in her spellcards and got to the last spellcard without any extra lives just to die there.
It's weird how inconsistent I am in this.

>>43848179
Hard to choose only one I think it would be stage 4 from PCB, I also like the weird Makai stages in UFO but honestly every anon here has chosen top tier stages.

If Ciel can no-sell Vlov's blue flames which on this instance are stated to be "on an entirely different level" from his fire hands, then shouldn't she be able to ignore Aoko's Starbow as well? I don't see why not.

Tried IN extra for the first time and managed to reach Mokou's second spellcard, which is funny since I before I always died a few times before reaching the boss in extra stages.

Congrats anon that's impressive. Especially if you didn't use the starbow break safespot(It's the only one I know not sure if there are others).
How long have you been playing touhou to reach that level?

I ended up safespotting starbow break for the extra resources to waste on it, but bombing though it would've been my next choice had I failed.

After you clear it once, you'll notice that you're able to clear it again more easily. This goes for all the games. One part of it is reflex skill, but you should also be executing techniques and strategies to clear the game.

In the extra stage, bullet streaming is important for clearing much of the non-boss portion, you can refrain from reaching full power mode until the screen fills with bullets that you can clear, it helps to be able to seek out voids in the bullets during dense spells like Philosopher's Stone & Starbow Break, and there are specific paths you can follow to capture Cranberry Trap & And Then There Were None.

Also, beating something harder than what you're playing does make coming back to your usual gameplay feel easier. After you start getting EX clears, you might start first-try clearing normal mode runs.

>the first card will be some ominous hard-mode
Well, considering that first spellcard is discount Starbow Break, first card being new Legacy Mode would make all of sense.

>> No.33836408 [View]

Mike first non is very Starbow break like.
There seems to be four(?) kind of cards, active, passive, item and equipment.
Item gives you items like lifes or bombs.
Passive is like a buff, one gives you more money maybe.
No idea the difference between active and equipment.

i'm a big fan of the pc-98 tracks
world of empty dreams
hakurei eastern wind (get the original sc88 midi for this one, really)
starbow dream
faint dream - inanimate dream
gensokyo past and present flower land
road of the apotropaic God - dark road
plain asia (i prefer it to her stage theme)
desire drive
there's a lot more, but in general i like SoEW and IN sound track the best

Listening to the bit of Starbow I can find I'm kind of disappointed. Great look and the whole "idols who came from the stars" high concept is great... but the music is just generic. Not weird the way that concept would make you think.

Finally, finally cleared Extra EoSD. This was my first Touhou game and I got all endings on Normal but then have been playing this for almost four months now. I promised myself I would clear Extra before moving onto the next game, and finally my work paid off (yes, with the pussy strat for Starbow Break).

Got all the way up to Youmu on Normal on my first play of PCB this same day. So happy to play something different. I know I'd never be able to enjoy it without having cleared Extra first.

>What's you normal life/bomb count look like when you get to Flandre?
4 lives, but usually only 1-2 bombs. I usually bomb on Philosopher's Stone and the last big bullet spread from the fairies.

>How many spells can you consistently capture?
Fairly Consistent: Silent Selene, Royal Flare, Lävatein, Four of a Kind, Kagome Kagome (minus the occasional cunt pattern)
Sometimes: Philosopher's Stone, Starbow Break
Rarely: Cranberry Trap (need to find a good path), Maze of Love (have a good strategy and am getting better, just need to get gud after the first spin), Catadioptric (I know about the right-hand side being a safe spot but haven't gotten the hold of it yet)

>Personally I don't like leaving a game while it has what I consider "unfinished business"
I'll happily be with the autistic few who don't leave until at least Extra is complete.
You get how I feel! I don't know if I really would feel "unworthy," I just want to finish this one all the way before moving onto something else (though I want to try Hard and Lunatic someday, but would rather focus on Normal in other games first). Of course I have nothing against those who do, it's just the way I am. I can play multiple games at once, but not multiple ones from the same genre at once generally.

>At any rate I just want you to realize the boat that you're in anon.
Good to know.

For hours they fought in the sky up above,
Flan used Starbow Break, Lavatein, even Maze of Love
They dodged and they countered, they bombed and they grazed.
It looked like Flanfly could be seeing the end of her days.

The opposition was too much, Flan could barely think
Meanwhile Reimu was preparing Fantasy Seal -Blink-
She shot the attack, it was over for sure.
Little did they know Flan multiplied by Four

ONE was too many, Four brought the girls to tears
Suddenly, x4 Ripples of Four Hundred Ninty Five Years
The Eight girls wound up paying a hefty toll
Flan, would continue her trek to the North Poll

It was a long trip but she was finally here.
"THE NORTH POLE! SNOW FLAKES! SANTA, ELVES AND REINDEER!"
Flan Barrel Rolled in glee as she quickened her pace
Alarms then went off as she entered Workshop Airspace...

"Santa, a Bogey" an Elf yelled as he scrambled.
"Should we shoot? We don't want to risk Christmas being canceled".
The red, chubby Touhou sat with a smile.
"Why don't we just let her in for a while".

Oh what a surprise, the same post as last time this drama happened. Couldn't possibly be that you have a motive here could it?
It was explained to you before, /jp/ is faster the last few weeks.
>>18690289
>But why would they do that?
Angry natives such as starbow who cried to mod on irc to get the threads deleted before, outsiders who dislike monster girls or just someone looking for laughs. It's hard to tell.
