Look into Kumano Kodo trail. I didn't have time to do the entire thing since it apparently takes 3-4 days but I did take a bus to the last stretch of it and walked a day's worth to the end. There's a big fancy shrine which they say is one of the oldest in Japan. They also sold Yatagarasu themed charms and such there too, if you're into shrine memorabilia or just Yatagarasu. It was a pretty place and I'd like to go back some day and do the whole thing.

Lumia is blatantly just a Larva knock-off, what with the whole silly little girl secretly hiding great darkness thing. Except worse since at least Larva was plot relevant and tied into existing characters.
Using Cirno again as the second boss also makes it clear that there's just no ideas left for the franchise. She's just in everything ever since she started out as a miniboss in PCB, and ZUN didn't even give her a new theme; he just keeps reusing the one from PoFV every time.
The third stage boss is really bland, too. Like, what kind of youkai is she even supposed to be? ZUN usually makes an effort to use actual folklore for his characters, but this one is just some bland Chinese girl.
Every other boss just being reused from the fighting games is weird too. It's like there is just nothing new introduced in here, it's all reused assets or something.
I guess all the gacha money went straight to ZUN's head and he figured that toss in a bunch of alts and call it a day. If this is going to be the future of the franchise, I might as well call it quits now.

Am I the only one who really apreciates the back-to-basics nature of the gameplay? I get that people say it feels a bit "dry", there's no special ability or colorful shit bouncing on the screen, but I feel like with Touhou 18 he went way overboard with all the special stuff you could with the ability cards.

I get that people are really upset that he removed the ability to see your hitbox, but I think it's really well compensated by the fact that the danmaku patterns aren't so dense. Like I feel the amount of shit on the screen got kinda overwhelming in some of the previous games. I mean, I'm not the best player, but still...

Also the music here is best in ages. Sure there's some duds like the stage 1 and 2 themes and Rumia's song sounds a bit awkward, but from stage 3 onwards it's really, really good. I loved the ska version of U.N Owen Was Her he previewed as a April's Fool prank.

I also like how the various fighting game characters are finally give proper lore and it's nice that Cirno finally has her own bossfight. I really liked the projectile stop thing she uses. Sakuya's fight was also really good and memorable.

It feels like ZUN is tying up some loose ends and fleshing out characters that were a bit lacking in lore. I still don't know what the hell Meiling is supposed to be though.

Also, did anyone else find it reallu funny that the "Youkai of Darkness" is the first boss?
