Tohya wrote it mainly for Ange because even though he's scared of meeting her, he knows can't just leave Ange alone with nothing. It's his way of bringing her (And hopefully himself) closure without actually meeting her. It'd be weird if he just forgot about her and left her with nothing, he isn't that kind of person to just forget about her when he remembers how much he means to her, even if he's no longer the same person and can't meet with her. EP8 zones in on Ange so much and ends with her decision because she's the eventual subject of Umineko, the whole thing was for her and to teach her the meaning of love which Battler figured out too late. The way it's written is also partly to protect his family's image, when in reality most of them were probably shitty people for the most part. I view it as just his way of really coping with all he's been through, he wants to move on but he can't just forget either.

Tohya never really managed to move on for many years even when Ange did thanks to him, but he eventually finds closure by meeting with Ange, their sibling bond is what finally allows them to heal despite the fact neither of them are the same people they used to be. And it allows Tohya to finally escape the purgatory he'd been stuck in for so long once he fully confronts his past self again.

it's a way of bringing it all to a conclusion, to settle the feelings battler never got the chance to so tohya can finally move on with his life by pouring all those thoughts and memories and ideas into writing, even if there was pain and suffering and fear in reimmersing himself in battler's mindset to the point of not being able to walk it'd still be worth it to finally be free of the spirit of a man with things left unfinished, to truly be his own man in the end instead of some unwelcome pretender in danger of being removed at any time
ange still needed to provide that final push though, the last duty battler required to move on being the knowledge that his sister was safe and happy, that she had lived a true full life despite the pain that his own death had caused her, and with the knowledge that she truly was he finally let tohya go and passed on to the golden land

So WHY was Umineko written anyway
Yasu wrote ep1 and 2 because supposedly she was going to do that, but probably didnt do that
So why did Tohya write the rest? Wasnt he scared of Battler and of meeting Ange anyway? Or I guess its Ikuko who also did a lot of the writing but its Tohya who would have had to tell her all the details and help her to do it
why did he think itd be a good idea to write and publish all that?

Some umineko thoughts since I finished it recently

I was surprised that I mostly liked most characters in the answers arcs. Every time they introduced a new one I was scared theyd be dumb or annoying or wed get abig tangent but I ended up liking most of them. I was especially surprised by Dlanor who I thought would be a bitch but she was very cute and kind and I liked how she ended up in Battler's side rather than Erika's in the big fight
Ep7 was fucking kino it reminded me of Ep1 a lot and that was one of my favorites in the questions arcs.
Ange is fucking dumb like stupid as bricks I was really seething and upset when she kept denying the FUN halloweeen party but it all worked out in the end.
Ep5 and 6 felt kinda like bullshit in a lot of parts but I guess looking back on it it wasnt that bad. The part where Shannon and Kannon were in the same room particularly got to me and also in Ep6 when Battler is the "game master" and it annoyed me how generally speaking in games, if you do something then the GM knows, they have perfect information, but then Erika bullshits around with her "oh teehee akshually i killed everyone ;)" but I get that the point is that its kind of bullshit (kids DO pull this sort of shit off when playing and being annoying and yes its bullshit and shes bullshitting and being a shithead without love)
I still don't think I quite get the golden truth I mean I think I kind of do but I couldnt put it into a sentence

Battler not wanting to meet Ange at first was kind of rude and weird but I still liked it. I wish there was an old Ange sprite.

I think it grows on you as you mull over it once you've read everything and put the game down.
I can see why it was constructed the way it was, and in my personal opinion the "answer" wasn't the point of the game. The point of the game was the thinking taken in getting there, which only the reader can choose to engage in or not, hence why people who read Higurashi first and read Umi thinking it would be more or less the same story rehashed a little might be a little peeved.
I don't think he changed the solution or anything, he just led you away from the correct course by having Battler be a bit of a moron in the QA's. It's only after I've read the AA's that I think I can appreciate how well the QA's were set up.
If there was a mistake it was episode 7 being a massive boring plot exposition that doesn't quite tell you everything you want to know. It's unsatisfying because it never explains the main mystery of episode 6, which is how Kanon "disappeared" from the closet. It's hinted at, but Claire being one hell of an unreliable narrator is more confusing than anything. I don't know what I'd do differently though, since it just is the time that everything has to be laid out now that Battler's realised the main secret, but I'm not all that impressed with the way that bit was handled. Episode 8 is one hell of a sendoff though. I don't think I can really fault it for what it is. It just doesn't finish what people thought episode 7 started, it ends Ange's character development instead, which is what 7 left open ended.

Oh yeah, and as always I'm just some fag on the internet, pinch of salt and all. I don't ever think I explain myself well when I write these, but I've written it now.
