Lines like this is why I love EP4's scenes with Maria and Ange so much. The things Maria tries to tell Ange are arguably some of Umineko's most important and inspired dialogues, and I sometimes wonder what compelled R07 to write so much about such a profound message. She really lays it out for Ange in the very beginning, Ange is just too stuck in her cynical worldview to understand it at this point, even if she tries so hard and it's really tragic, even though she does manage to attain happiness in the end.

''Becoming happy isn't the same thing as accepting your current misfortune. It means creating new happiness out of your current misfortune.'' is what she says after and she basically just sums up Umineko in one sentence, building a happy narrative that works for yourself while adhering to the things you can't change. So many things in Umineko are obvious right from the start but just like Ange, most readers don't ''see'' it either until she does.
