I'm pretty sure every genre on the planet has been used for Touhou arrangements, except maybe instrumental hip-hop.

MAYBE

I like Mother 2's music, but I didn't like the remixes. I found them painfully awkward at best. The second one is better, but by a slim margin. It's a miracle I didn't ride off the whole circle after the OTONOISHI remix albums, seeing as how they were the first two ALiCE'S EMOTION releases I have listened to.

I fucking love this album. It's deceptively complex and is unusually well mixed for a doujin album and is heavily layered, but I have trouble describing it outside of listing genres. Ambient techno, house, breakbeat, glitch, hardcore, dub, drum and bass, etc. I can't directly name an artist or album to describe the execution of the songs in question, so here's a small dose:

Describing parts like 1:55 is hell for me since there is so much shit going on. Ambient drones, the leading melody, glitch, various beats and breaks, and shittons of other sounds that are along for the ride. It appears so simple while being densely layered. I'm embarrassed to admit that I have spent nearly 20 fucking minutes thinking of a description that didn't just involve name-dropping your typical big-name stock artists like Autechre, boards of canada, Cylob, Global Communication, The Orb, etc. since it would just me saying "It's ambient with beats hurr", and yet I'm doing it anyway. Songs on here unfold in ways that keep them fresh and interesting. It's like a striptease that takes off revealing clothes and then puts on other articles of clothing that are equally provocative (if not more).

Man, I am so going to get that job at Pitchfork one day.

>Lifework
All Time for XXX is the song of all songs. This and SUBHUMAN by Subroc Recordings are the two best original albums released back at C77.

As for Touhou stuff, Mushi/Lumpy/Musique Concrète released two one-of-a-kind arrange albums. I guess it was a temporary circle project as it discontinued seven months after it formed. Marasy is also cool, but I find him more fun to watch than listen to. I really hope he releases a CD with his Bemani covers. It will probably never happen, but I shall continue to dream.

ALiCE'S EMOTION is hit or miss for me. I like Angel Rings and Lycoris, but despise Otonoishi and Chaos Flare.

minimum electric design is fairly recent but shows promise even if I didn't like the C78 album. Gensokyo Electronic Shoegazer and sanae telegraph show markings of a circle of making really good shit.

fromadistance is another circle that poked it's head out around the end of 2009 with eureka and released historie at C78. He also did two original songs on a web-released EP that were pretty good as well.

Agreed. RED kind of sucked. I thought that about Sphere Caliber at first but that grew on me, but I don't see this happening with AE's C78 album.

Also the three disc packaging is dumb.

C77. I meant to drop this board like a pregnant teenager after the uploads completely died down, but I failed to account that sometimes shit takes six to eight months to pop up.

The Marisa Stole the Precious Thing video was my first exposure but only because Mint made a chart for the song in his first song pack. Back then, I had no fucking clue where it was from. I was just like "Amusing animation. Terrible shame she can't sing".

My first actual exposure where I found out what the fuck Touhou was came from a youtube video by WinDEU of him doing the Extra stage of UFO. Probably wouldn't have given a rat's ass about the series if it weren't for UFO Romance in the Night Sky being a great song. Even if I hated it, I would have crossed paths again with Touhou because of Technorch making me interested in doujin music and C77 was coming around the corner. Only reason why I came to /jp/ and then /mu/ when uploads slowed down.

Still haven't touched a game because my computer is a five year-old Macbook that was given to me when my sister got something better and I don't have the money to throw around to get something that isn't complete shit.

I had never even seen a shooting star before. 25 years of rotations, passes through comets' paths, and travel, and to my memory I had never witnessed burning debris scratch across the night sky.
