I didn't really get into it because of the kayfabe, mostly because I saw Linchou blow up on niconico, but otherwise I agree that people constantly trying to find out personal information are just weirdos obsessed with the idea of someone rather than giving a single shit about who they are. It's just insane to me to see how prevalent this whole "find out everything about who they are outside of who they are" idea became. With a past life I can kind of get it since nowadays its a coinflip on someone just being a vtuber prior unless you're Mio and went around the block at least 3 times but even that still leaves a pretty damn high chance of getting led to some twitcast or niconico facecam career, and for the autists obsessed with that stuff it doesn't just stop there.
