Hello, friends
Welcome to ta-kun's tutorial on how to draw on paper and finish on your phone.
I use Ibis paint for this.
>Step 1
Draw what you want on paper either with a dark medium, or ink it with a dark medium after doing a light sketch
>step 2
Take a picture of it on your phone in good a lighting as you can
>step3
Fix the perspective of your picture to match the original
>step 4
Use a combo of level, brightness and contrast, curves, extract line drawing, or anh filter that can give you a nice black and white and get clean black lines for your piece
>step5
clean up any artifacts or lines you want and start filling it in
Make sure to check some of the settings before you start, because there might be oddities that were meant to tackle the digital workflow that become problematic for this aliasing process
At this point your work sjould ne aliased and ready to be filled in with the bucket.
>bonus
If you have clip studio paint, and you drew cleanly enough you can go to
>filter
>blur
>smooth
And it would smooth out yojr lines just like in real anime.

Enjoy!

I am sorry, but we are not talking on the same frequency. Explaining my thoughts further is a rabit hole I don't want to go down. Sorry, this sounds rude but I felt it would be more rude to say nothing.

You are not rude, I am not there. Even after the project when I was handling the style a lot more confidently I wonder if I would get the OK even doing douga was I on the production like nichijou. This isn't a style I have done before and it is wild to hope to master and replicate works of master artists, and I enjoy what I made, but that just means there is so much more to learn and to develop.
Your work is nice, it is sort of in the style of these yt music videos for some japanese songs. I am aiming to become an animator, but I don't think there is fault innthe path you have chosen either. Ganbare.

I animated the chapter "procession" from helvetica standard last year.
https://files.catbox.moe/bjv99i.mp4
My traditional animation workflow is a patchjob, I still don't have a red blue line seperator so I draw thw shading on another layer, and I still don't have the lines and smoother perfectly figured out, still too messy, but my approach mostly mirrors the ink and paint process of anime studios.
I spent a bunch od time trying to figure oit how ti draw in arawi's style, which was really hard, I worked very hard to have the layouts as good as possible, and tried to look at every asset I made for the animation through the eyes of an animation director.

I don't understand why you would apply yourself to a skill that takes a lifetime to develop without wanting to push above and beyond, however I am in no position to question the path others take.
Character recognizability is not what I am looking for. I strive to match and surpass the quality in the animation. Feel free to call it zealot.
I hope this doesn't come off as snobby, I am interested in peoole who try to do the same, I have found very few in the past.

There is a difference between harsh love and bitterness. Jealous jaded individuals don't bring much to the table. Hugbox is telling someone their art is perfect when they clearly need to work on something, but if you don't point out the good stuff you are left with a crab pit.

Semi recognizable is easy peasy, professionally passable is a nightmare, especially if it is not the type of style you usually do. Almost a 100% of the attempts you see around of people trying to replicate for styles like kyoani's work would have been tossed in the shredder by the animation director.
>the video you posted
Digitally is how most web gen do it, which is fine, but I am interested in the whole 9 yards. Although, I would not mind discussing these stuff with a digital animator, even if our workflows would be different.

For extra trivia, look up the name of moebius's daughter.
Yeah, he and Hayao were that close.

The funny thing is, japanese art has developed because of western works. Since the opening of japan the art went from very flat works and symbol drawings, with rare excaptions like hokusai to being very educated.
You can actually follow this early development by compering ukiyo-e to kuchi-e. Currently, japanese art builds upon the western master a lot closer and in a lot better of a way than western art, and you will be able to find parallels between very educated western and japanese works.
Japanese art is not a magical style, it is the same fundementals with a different emphesis and a very educated background.
Because japanese artists see themselves as simply artists, and not bound to just anime, they never turn down a chance to learn from somebody else, western or eastern. This is something you should have too if you wish to be a great artist. Being humble and learning from anywhere you can is golden.
By the way, the whole anime is nonuclydian shmbol drawing is comeplete nonsense. The only reason 3dcg anime models have to be messed up is because they are trying to copy the likited animation look directly. There are many examples like final fantasy where they go for realistic rendering and sculpt the geometry directly the way it is supposed to be.

For once I agree with the frog
Most of /ic/ needs to be more chill and just have a good time and be nice too. It is not good for your art in the longterm either.

I ain't knocking studying pixiv oe gacha. I am asking about those fields in particular because they are my fields of interest. I do think that it is a shame people avoid it, not sure if they feel like they can't do it, or don't think there is value in it...
I definitely seen on /a/ people who tried to delve into sigital ink and paint, it would be nice if I got to actually discuss with them

If you solve textbooks of 1st grade mathematics every single day and get all the questions wrong then despite years of hard work you will not be doing calculous.
This should go without saying, but if you are not thinking through your work and pushing yourself, asking does this look right, erasing, fixing, or even starting over you will not improve.
Those people who improve significantly are people who constantly try harder and harder things and push to figure out what they did wromg and think through it.

A lot of the studies here and the western art communities in general revolve around either pixiv and twitter japanese works or 80s anime.
Does anyone here study modern tv or movie anime, or tries to replicate the style of certain productions and designers or even mangakas?
I am also curious if there are people here who have tried to follow the traditional anime production workflow. I never manage to find anybody who does it besides actual industry.

I use a name and not a trip for semi anonimity, even if some of these posts can be traced to me, it's not like twitter where "everything under this name was said by this guy". Sine I use this thread a lot if you say mean things in my name you will make people uncomfortable to come here. I don't want to play the trip game or take pics of my works every post. Please use your time for more constructive things, being nice feels good.

I don't have much to say, you did a great job redlining and helping out a friend. I also quite like how you have sharpened the jaw a little., although, since it is from such a low angle, I wonder if you can get away with doing something that is between both of yours, but removing some of the lines and replacing it with shading. She is looking down, and it workd with how you did it, but it may be enough to merit it. I could be completely off the mark on this one.

It derails the threads and they would never interact with a real point and dismiss everything else. It is best to ignore it and report it if you feel like going the extra step.
