Join this server if you want to be bullied into drawing more, or just want encouragement and critique.
We've got fun stuff going on like prp and suicide idealization as well as many hard-working beginners, so don't be afraid if you suck. We've even got some retards in our server, so don't be afraid of being dumb.
We're just a bunch of fun loving folk who like to get down and dirty when things get serious.

I was just about to redline this and refer you to the sticky, but then I remember that I actually drew this a while back.

If you want to make fanart for me, do it in the server so I can mock you properly Don't be a pussy just post some shitty imitation on /beg/, crying to yourself, and hoping that I don't see it.

What do you mean? I'm already a better nosebro than nosebro. Nosebro was someone dear to me and I just want to keep his legacy.

>it's not as beneficial as people keep saying
I disagree.
you need to watch the movement as the model goes from pose to pose.

Long poses are great for learning forms. You can also move around to see the pose from different angles. It's hard to study anatomy from people outside, especially now in the fall, since they're all wearing clothes.

understand form better
read some hampton or do still lives or something

lots of pros bs rendering without ever learning forms and planes, but it's so simple.
Similar planes have the same value.

No, use a reference with a single light source

This is what most people who try to learn values fuck up

Don't bullshit your values
Simplify the face into planes and define a light source

study the work of other watercolor artists
Observe how they use color and the effect it has

You are using colors very literally. Grass and trees don't need to be green. Dirt doesn't need to be brown.
Design a color scheme to suit the feeling you want to evoke.
Also think about how to better imply depth. Your paintings are very flat.

Pic is sargent

If you are good enough at observational drawing, read Ken Hultgren's The Art of Animal Drawing to see how he constructs different animals. Then, devise your own method of construction.

It's much too white
The shadows on the figure should be bluer to match the building shadows.
There are hard cast shadows in the background, but none on the figure.
Apply atmospheric perspective and tune the colors to be closer together as well.

lock the transparency of the lineart and color it the main shadow color or red, depending on how well it reads/looks.
You can erase parts of the lineart or paint over it.

I do

It's a pretty typical practice to block in the major shadow shapes first, then go on to differentiate the half tones. It's crucial to have a good system for defining values when you go on to do stuff from imagination.

this
You will always need to work on your fundamentals. It's the same as every other skill.
Professional musicians still practice scales, top tennis players still practice their forehand, and the most successful writers still keep the three-act structure in mind.

No one is going to hand hold you through art. You have to decide for yourself what makes art good and judge your art based on that. I find that learning art is more of a spiritual journey once you start to go beyond the fundamentals.

These books focus more on theory/design than actual techniques and materials:
Making Color Sing
Learn Watercolor the Edgar Whitney Way

Pretty much any watercolor book you'll find in a used bookstore will teach you all the basic techniques and materials

Brush up on your drawing skills first, then practice simplifying objects into planar forms.
Similar planes have similar values.

This is all way ahead of your skill level, however. Work on your drawing and visualization skills. You are still symbol drawing and your drawings look flat. I suggest drawing from life and the Charles Bargue Drawing Course.

After that, focus on values first. Don't jump straight into full color.

the current sticky has very limited info on rendering

look at the angle of the shoulders and hips. Try to get the center line down as well. Use the navel and other visual hints as well. You might not be able to see everything, so you'll have to make your best guess.
