I Have worked with pastel a little bit, why do you ask?
I am wanting to work pretty much with oils only in the future using the Mark Carder Draw Mic paint method. Using pastels for color value studies does seems like a good idea, I have a few landscapes I want to do.
Here is a study I worked on today.

Suffering while doing something that you should be really enjoying seems pretty fucking stupid, what a drama queen you are. Have some agency over your mental process and enjoy what ever you are doing.

Op change the context in which you look at art and also your mind, take the Yogi/mystic pill.

You and you alone are the one who controls your mind and your perceptions.
Imo you should be joyful and happy at all times in your life regardless of external circumstances. I would suggest learning how to meditate and then turn your art process into a mediation. Creating art should be a joyful process.

To address the anon whom thinks the "life is a journey, not a destination" is full of shit, remember that as soon as you reach one goal you will instantly have another goal in mind. If at any point you are happy with where you are at as an artist and want to stay at that level, well that is when you will go to shit. Sorry buddy there will always be a goal you are striving for, might as well learn to enjoy the fuck out of the journey.

Here is ref for Velazquez study, will need to get to computer to post other refs.

I have no clue how much time I spend. I would guess 4 hours per drawing? I'm very inefficient with studio time. Will say that since I have been pretty much only focused on values when drawing things have speed up a lot.

Great I will be looking out for you

I am gonna sound like I a shilling for Carders brand of oil paints, Geneva paints, but they are great paints, have a terrific handling quality, are extremly practical to use ( i store my glass palette in a masterson stay wet palletee) my paints stay wet for weeks, and they address what you are talking about here
>>oil paints give out intense fumes and requires ventilation to use them
Carder designed his paints to be able to use around his children. I sleep in my studio Genneva paints do not smell bad, I have no ventilation in my studio, never had any health problems.
>>Also I think you have to use paint thinners too
Geneva paints come with thinner and medium added, they are ready to go out of the tube.

Geneva sells a product called "brush dip" that can also be used as a thinner also a brush cleaner. you dig your brushes in this after painting and you don't need to clean your brushes,

Personally I would skip acrylics get the Geneva paints and products, a lot of the stuff Carder shows you how to make.
Follow Carders method exactly step by step and you will have works of art you are happy to hang in your house.

Carders main emphases is on first getting your values correct and then getting the color correct. I have never done digital so I am speaking from a ill informed position however imo if you get value correct and the color correct, you are like 90 percent there with any medium.

>> No.3368129 [View]

Carders method is specifically for oil, and I believe that it does not work with acrylics as his method is alla prima, you also premix "color groups" that need to stay wet, preferably for at least a week, if you cam afford oil paints I would recommend them.

>>I think when I start to get decent enough with acrylic painting, the improvements will show up on my digital work too. I should probably try to switch up between doing still life's digitally and tradiontally often.

I have never worked in digital. Jeff Watts makes a great point in that if you start with a physical piece of art work you can always scan that and finsih in digital as well as having a physical piece that you can either sell our keep, win win. I do think the Carder method will help you out a ton even if your goal it to do only digital.

Your welcome, I am on the forum as well with the same user name as posting name send me an email if you see me there, I actually go to another site that branched off of the DMP forum as the DMP can be a little of a hug box and I like more harsh critique.

Is your mommy proud?

Thanks for reminding me what a unproductive waste of time shit show /IC/ is.

For other anon out there that are interested in realist oil painting, Carders method is the best out there, at least that I have found for free.

You can save yourself thousands of hours and dollars by learning what he has to offer for free.
The forum attached to his website is great for improving on his technique, with people who want to help your progress unlike this loser troll I am responding to.

I should add that in the process of learning how to teach and teaching his DMP method Carder had the "ego shock" of finding out that anyone can achieve great works by using his method and that being a great artist is not about having natural talent. Being a great artist is just about following the basic rules that Carder lays out for free.

>>3368015
Anon you should join Carders DMP forum this board is shit. http://forum.drawmixpaint.com/

So? Carder aims more for the type of "realism" achieved by artist like Sargent. More of an abstract, ugly realism then a more photo realist look.

Dude not looking to entertain your autism with this non sequitur debate. I have watched most of Carders free vids and no where does he say he is the best artist that has lived. I wish Ingres had a youtube channel or website detailing all of his methods.
http://www.drawmixpaint.com/

I really dont even want to respond to this post, the crabs in the bucket mentality of /IC/, for the other anons out there you should be happy to be reading this thread if you have not heard about Carder already. As a kinda old art fag wish I had found Carder about ten years ago.

If you think that Carder is just a hobbyist" then post your own work, otherwise your opinion is totally worthless.

What is the point of making such a worthless and untrue post? Serious are you mad that you spent a shit ton of money for a worthless art degree? Carder is on of the best resources out there anyone talking shit on him is a salty loser.

>>3365824
>>3365834
Carder does not talk about copying a painting stroke by stroke, he teachs a concept called maintain the abstractions, and painting ugly, he has free vids on both subjects.

>>3366101
Anon Carder is pretty bad ass in what he teaches for free. You can learn how to take excellent photos to work from and how to process them correctly. He teaches you how to make things like a shadow box for still lives, color checker, pallet holders, easels, how to finish paintings, im am missing some stuff as well. Imo Carder is a god send and his paints that he sells are awesome.

Posting drawing after Velazquez using Carders method of drawing focused only on value and proper proportions,

Carders "method" is more about learning how to see color and value correctly so that you can branch off and use other techniques or Incorporated his methods into others. He says this in his vids, do his method for 5/10 paintings.
Imo Carder is one of the best teachers out there with one of the best methods.

Would suggest you learn the logical fallacies, you are using one and probably unaware of it.
You are using the composition fallacy, ie
The car has a broken radiator, therefore the car is broken, so all the parts in the car are broken.

>>Dalí was a business man
correct
>> Dalí was the original charlatan
correct, and had a huge ego to boost.

None of this has any merit as to whether Dali was a surrealist or not our whether he was a good painter/artsit.

Traditional art fag here that is wanting to figure how to use photo shop and don't want to reinvent the wheel. I will be working from original photos I have taken with the intention of using light room and photo shop to help edit reference photos from which I will then paint from.

Since I will just be using these photos as a reference for painting I dont need to completely master photo shop, just want to learn the basics to correct errors in the original photo. Photos will be used in accordance to the DMP (draw mix paint) method, related thread here. >>3298234

I don't know the answer to your question but I would recommend if you haven't already that you join the DMP forum and ask that question there, the tism is strong there and a very helpfull forum.

Nice try Shlomo, very few people are completely put together mentally (i put myself in that category) everyone should work one improving the quality of their consciousness,
I recommend a man named Tom Campbell for this,

Needing to pay for a (((therapist))) and you recommending it others shows your cucky sjw nature. We live in the information age where we have some of the best teachers at our finger tips (like Tom Campbell) and you suggest going back to the appeal to authority figures rather then taking responsibility for yourself, Fuck off and grow your balls back.

Anon, ffs, I am not Mark Carder, just a 4chan artfag that likes his method and wants to share this little gem to you fuckers.

In all seriousness for you and those art anons out there that are interested. The products he shills are awesome, and once again he shows you how you can make a lot of them.

His oil paints are probably a little bit more then average, not much, but the quality is amazing. Not only that but they last much longer on your palette so in the long run saves you money, plus you can reuse your unused pallet paints, like in the video I shared. I store my pallets in a air tight watercolor container (forgot product) and my paints stay wet for weeks, plus I dont need to re mix.

Another thing that is awesome that he sells is his brush dip, you do not need to clean your brushes after every use, and if you are not going to be painting for a while you can re dip every two weeks without fear of your brushes being ruined by paint drying in them. The brushes I have in pic have not been used for almost a month only dipped twice and ready to go.

I am sure I sound like I am a salesman for the company, there products are great, anons can decide for themselves.

Pic realted is shit bought and shit made from DMP and Geneva paints.
