[sweats] a-automatic or m-manual?

I posted the WIP of these a few weeks ago, then finished it and forgot to post finals.

These are closeup/detailed facial expressions for in-game cutscenes/dialog sequences

The truck studies were used to make the animated video the screenshot appears in.

The pieces were created in adobe illustrator and separated onto different layers for animation purposes. all the assets were then imported and rigged in adobe after effects, timed to the VO narration, which was provided to me.

The client(s) were very adamant that the truck shown in the video look as close to their company vehicles as possible. They sent me 3 photos, only one of which was a 3/4 view, but it showed the back and side. Thankfully there was another that had a frontal view. Google did not seem to have any photos of these vehicles at the time. Not sure if there are any now, but you never know.

I make the final assets in adobe illustrator, sometimes using a scan/photo as a guide and sometimes not. This particular project used a fairly simple isometric view whenever depth was shown. (Just like in 2D sidescrolling games, the style was used to avoid perspective inconsistency)

Most of these studies (like a lot of my more realistic ones, pic related) are orthographic drawings - a type usually used by designers, which focuses on one of the 6 major sides of a subject and does NOT show perspective distortion.

My 2 main reasons behind the studies are
1) to learn about the source material - how it is constructed, what makes the source look like itself, what do I find myself drawing first, etc.

2) As a "rehearsal" of sorts, so I don't need to be constantly referring to reference material and I am able to fluently construct my own unique versions of the source without the need for more outside info. I seek out additional info as needed, but I make sure I have a solid enough foundation so I'm not crippled without it.

I study to improve my knowledge of the source material, which will allow me to create faster and better art/designs in the future.

...Maybe they want to learn about how I use perspective or my art process? Idk man. "Art" isn't just one skill - it's a continuously growing collection of em.

Feel free to point out anything that's false or inefficient and I'll fix it.

No, that wasn't me but now I really wanna see that picture. Got a link?

And thanks!

Wacom is very overpriced compared to all the totally fine alternatives we now have at our disposal (huion seems to be a really great value, considering they have tablets with displays)

Windows 10 and wacom don't work well together and getting a working driver is finding a moving a needle in a haystack. Had an issue with windows 10/windows ink/ and the wacom driver and it caused my lines/strokes to adhere to a very tiny grid, giving me curves that resembled stairs and it made the tablet nearly unusable

Lazy Nezumi saved my ass because the smoothing counteracted the Minecraft lines, but it wasn't a full fix. Wacom's tech support took forever to get ahold of and their "advice" was to:

1) uninstall the current driver and delete its temp files/appdata
2) restart my computer
3) download a new one/install it
4) restart computer
5) test with windows ink ON
6) test with windows ink OFF
7) repeat

After 8 months and a million un/installs
I finally found the solution in a random yt video - the appdata/preferences of your drawing program(s) has to edited so that it doesn't use Windows ink as its interpolation. If I remember right it should be switched to "mouse" or an equivalent.

Due to the unstoppable updates and bizarre user restrictions Windows 10 is a bloated, frustrating OS and a total downgrade from 7 (which was their best OS since XP imo). I skipped 8 because of how poor it looked on desktop, but used it on other machines and it seemed really arbitrary.
