Also depends on what you mean by "standard" for the industry. Spectrum in particular varies in style pretty dramatically. Karla can render the hell out of stuff, but there's just as many successful illustrators that don't render at all.

Done with this one. Might not be the strongest in my folio, but I'm happy to have pushed through to finish it. Learned a lot working through it all!

Thanks to everyone who gave feedback -- appreciate it.

I agree with you guys. Does it feel stiff as in posed? Flawed gesture? Both? I'm having problems seeing it right now -- I've been working for like 12+ hours already. Appreciate the critique. The file is certainly big enough that I can get in there and paint what I need.

Update. Almost ready to call it done -- if you guys see anything that bother you, have at it. Cleaning up some other work to take my eyes off it for a little bit.

I should add that in this post is the correct orientation, I just happened to have it flipped while working on it.

Thanks! This is what it was, for reference.

Thank you! I agree -- I'm trying to finish this up tonight, actually, so it's something I hope to get back around to.

Update from a couple threads back; the fabric is giving me a rough time of things!

The texture you're pulling off is really nice! Are you doing more opaque applications of painting to get that "thick" look to it?

Appreciate it. The floor isn't a texture, but I used a simple pattern for the base of the checkerboard. The rest is brushwork.

Started with just playing with some colors.

Thanks. It's sort of a mashup of brushes, but mostly basic ones for the majority of the painting and some from Jaime's brushes; particularly for texture.

Hahaha, this one actually made me laugh out loud. What a thread.

Also successful neckbeard in all three of these, for consistency, of course.

Sure; I don't have a lot of SP's to go through, but here's some selections. I think I actually spent the least time on the most recent one.

Thanks! Yeah, the frozen milk is one that was bizarre and difficult to get good ref for.

>>1581927
And now I can't unsee that. Great.

Still making 'em. They're coming a little slow since I'm getting ready to go out of town and working on some other stuff simultaneously.

>>1580333
Hah! Totally does in retrospect. I was using some reference that had some bounced red from the display the armor was in. Thought it was pretty sexy, so wanted to do some of that.

Thanks. Rocks are all about edges. Hard edges in light, softer in shadow.

Working through 'em. This is fun! Realizing there's so much stuff I've just never painted.

Kinda digging this one up, but I really liked the ref, so I definitely had to paint it. I need to work on better brush economy :x.

Prometheus screencap value study.

>>1566640
I like it, but so many of the figures are really stiff.

>>1566753
Nice comp! I kinda wish I could see the foremost character's weapon fully since the second-most developed one has his weapon cut off by the picture plane at almost the exact same point of the spear. If you opened up a bit to the right and gave it some breathing room, might be nice.

I just signed up for the free trial that has all the content to check it out. It looks great. It being worth 19 a month isn't even a discussion really.

I post more stuff on my blogspot than on my tumblr, but sure, why not. There's a link to the blog in the most recent post. I would just link that here instead, but 4chan is a fucking cunt with blog links.

It's a lot of fundamental studies (especially on the blog), but what the hell. Appreciate the views.

Huston's color theory stuff looks really solid. If I go through anything while I'm using the time of the trial for now, it'll probably be that. Definitely a decent representation of other fundamentals though, for sure.
