What kind of art job do you want?

Create an artwork suitable for that type of job. Put all in.
Then check what areas you have to improve on. Gather objects, photographs, master paintings, ... and study those areas you lack in. After those studies, do another artwork without reference. Check where your problems lie. Study. repeat @ infinitum

Check Algenpfleger's sketchbook thread, has a nice mixture of painting from imagination and studying, though your road might differ depending on your goals.

OP, have you watched some videos from ctrlpaint.com?
He does what >>1498743 recommended.

The guy tends to make a new layer, make huge brush stroke with a soft brush. Then he erases the edges and merges it down.

He shows an example here:

Just installed a Bamboo. Anyone got the link to that download that adjusts pen pressure? To avoid pressing the pen all the way down for full opacity.

Line exercises are good as a warm-up and something to keep in mind while doing other studies. E.g., while studying anatomy, focusing on clean, long lines. Or work on neat hatching.

It is a waste of time to spend several hours - or even days - on just lines. As long as you keep aware of your line quality, it'll come naturally after a while of practicing drawing.

About rotating the page: do so when working on a piece. When just practicing, challenge yourself and don't rotate.
I've heard the tip to draw lines away from your body, for more stability, but didn't notice any difference myself.

Photoshop:
Brush settings > transfer: set jitter to 0 and opacity to pen pressure
General interface: set "flow" to 50 (or any other value to your liking)

Alternatively, choose a custom/textured brush that blends at 100% opacity. In the video, he works with pen pressure and flow though.

If pen pressure isn't working, reinstall and/or update your tablet drivers.

Draw stuff from life. Objects laying around in your room.
Drawing from life is always a good choice, no matter what skill level you're at. It improves sense of form, learn you to translate 3D to 2D, gives you an eye for natural light, values/colours, you don't have to unwarp lens distortion, ...
In short, whenever you don't know what to draw, you can start with a still life.

What you study depends on what your goal is. Want to draw humans? Continue reading the sticky. It has a link to Loomis' book pdfs.
