You're right. For some time I had the habit to have a pencil and a sketchbook in every place that I spend a lot of time, like my desk at work or my PC desk at home. I probably should get into this habit again or start carrying the Ipad Pro when I get it.

I dunno, I get motivated with new tools sometimes... I'm already drawing some anatomy studies, the tablet is just a plus.

Happened to me in the 2015 inktober... Mostly because I drew/painted an insane amount(for me) in the course of one and a half month...
I'm just getting back to drawing now and the thing that is instigating me is picking up an Ipad Pro to ease the process and challenging myself again about drawing better anatomy.

Will it work? I dunno, but I feel kinda bad to have stopped for more than a year when I could be landing some minor jobs in the field already.

Yeah, I see it too. Kyle was shitposted as fuck recently. Maybe I'll ditch it if the heat grows too much... But if it comes to that it'll probably be better to just leave the board, which I think is very harmful to it because as you said, it makes resourceful people go away.

We'll see how it goes...

Have in mind that the survey is exclusively about fantasy and sci-fi art.

>>2281482

I think the survey is about people who had a full year worth working as an artist, not from 2014 until 2015, but from January till December of 2014.

>But in those cases you recognize only the posts with the art, and all the general comments you make are still anonymous, so they can't form hateful opinions towards you as easily.

I don't really care for hateful opinions and I don't give reason for any. Anyway as I said I don't like giving my opinion anonymously, just that.

You're kinda right, it don't show a bigger picture, but you can relate it with how hard it is to make a steady income in this industry on an entry level.(but that is kinda obvious since ever)
Also, when you pair it up with some artists personal opinions on the subject you start noticing kinda of a trend.

>>2281414

I think this is a fair statement. I mean, if you can profit directly from your ideas without having to be a working hand on another person project, you probably can benefit way more that way if you're successful than the other way around where you won't be sharing any profit with the company.

Conceptart is satured for a long time now. You can find info about that from 2010. There is not too many studios hiring for the amount of people wanting to do conceptart. But the art industry isn't just concept.
I also think it's a natural trend to switch into education as a side thing or even full time as it's really easy to make money out of it even without you being a really good artist, you just need to be a good teacher or charismatic. Everyone and their mother want to be an professional artist and some pros are just capitalizing on that.

Yeah, read all of it. It's really interesting but has some major flaws, as the obvious public of those type of art related content(one amazing week and such) are beginners. Anyway is kinda alarming to read about Peter personal experience with artists struggling to make a living... At the same time I see SO MUCH artists with a low level portfolio complaining about the industry, it's really hard to get an overall look on the real situation.

>Accountability to your own opinions is sensible, it holds you to what you say and people can consider whether to take you seriously based on what you post, but assuming you're going to get honesty from others is silly. It decreases the likelihood, if anything.

I think you're right. I'm not naive.

But people will recognize my work anyway even posting without a trip, just like you can recognize Firez, or some anons that don't use a trip, just by their work.

I agree with all you said and sometimes I laugh at the shitposting too.

About the equalizer, makes sense and it's kinda good for general opinions, but most of the time you see clueless people giving critiques or shitposting like it was an actual critique and if the people receiving that comment don't spot and filter it, it can be harmful. So it kinda has two sides to it.

Anyway, I personally don't like to give my opinion anonymously, even more when you start getting accused of samefagging and such, but I appreciate the board and participating in it.

(I think we are derailing the thread)

I like the honesty of the anons, I think it's one of the only places where you can get good critique even if just 5% of these critiques are useful, but I personally don't like to post my opinion under a "disguise".
Actually I think this could be a better place without the anonymity that permits a lot of fags to shitpost, if people kept the honesty even without that "protection" we could build a more helpful board.

Actually a lot of pro's think he has a talent in fact. I saw it a lot on facebook when he was discovered. Let's face it, people aren't equals.

Anyway it doesn't take the fact that he drew an unimaginable amount of time his entire life.

I live in Brazil actually, so this might actually happen, but I have a car and would drive directly to the place.
Also, I don't get the question about the bar, there is bar everywhere in the city and it's way safer to draw/paint inside one than in a park.

Yeah, I have it and it's good.
Anyway, I asked this in another thread and nobody could give me an answer. Is there any method really straightforward like but with a more painterly approach? I like that style for character art, but it kinda of takes away some personality and doesn't look too good for bigger scenes.
What I like most is that you don't lose yourself, it's a nice process that you can follow to get a particular result and I really like working like that, as I tend to get lost in the process of painting. It would be nice to have another breakdown of a different process.

It was just a joke with Lefty. Anyway I didn't know you need to be worth a damn to use a trip. I do it because I don't like anonymity, but I like this board.

Nice bait.

I want to paint in public spaces like bars and such. I already do it with my sketchbook, but would be cool to be able to paint digitally while drinking a beer outside.

>was better before, something got lost in your process

Maybe the purple highlight is too strong? I kinda feel it too, but I'm not so sure about what it is.

About the feet I agree, but I'm not so sure about arms. For a character presentation standpoint maybe it's better that it's not much foreshortened?

Also, don't feed the shitposters who gives useless critiques and don't like that you won't listen to it.
