This. I don't get all the hate /ic/ directs do Proko. It's really unreasonable as his videos are good resource material and the methods are solid.
It actually helped me a lot 2 years ago, gave me insights on what I was doing wrong drawing a head and shading the shapes.
Maybe the hate is because he is a better teacher than Vilppu? I mean, you need to take cocaine to not sleep while watching his videos and is not so direct as Proko.

I have to say I'm impressed by the amount of details in the background of that pic that is almost 80% covered by characters... And it's a card art, right? It will be seen in a small size, I guess...

I think you're saying in a bad way?

Mine would be in a good way... Paul Bonner, every fucking time.

The technique is simple, but the process requires a lot of patience and is hard to master.

Also, hatching doesn't always work the same. Some artists use the lines making curves with the forms, others just do straight lines, others don't vary line weight too much, etc. You have to experiment and practice because you need a good hand to do it. (I'm not sure if artists like Dore used some type of guide, probably not)

You probably already know him, but check Andy Brase.

Well.. From what I've seen so far(and I've been here for more than a year), /ic/ half of the time gives bad advice/critiques and biased opinions.(like hurr durr that's tumblr art, it's bad /one-trick-ponny /sameface)
Saying that, the merc_wip is better than 98% of what people here post and sometimes it's valid to post your work because you can be trying to reason with someone that don't know shit about what they're talking about and pretend/think to know(Dunning-Kruger), and maybe someone is believing the guy saying shit.

If someone is contesting your arguments with "post your work" why would it be wrong to post it? "Post your work" was the wrong argument to begin with...

You're right and misunderstood what I meant. I said it's not good to give up on your social life, your friends, etc, for something that can give you 0 results(following a crazy schedule) when you can do something less crazier and keep your friends. :)

"It's not that hard"... Really? You drew way more than a person work in a 9-5 job. I'm not sure if I believe that, but anyway that is a huuuuuuuuuge amount of study for a week.

Add some hue variations on the skin, it's look too flat as it is now. But good painting anyway! :)

That might work. Some months before I quit my biology course, I was attending classes just to draw and not have distractions like I have at home.

So listen to Dave. Recently everytime he is asked about how he got good he says what he did, but don't say to people to follow hes steps. Actually he just say to not waste time and work smart. Also, I said that if you can work for an entire day studying those subjects and not burn out, go for it. But so far I've seem more people fail attempting to follow those crazy schedules(me included) than reaching their goals. Not everyone has the mindset to do so, even the majority of pro artists out there. (read/listen to interviews)

I know and I don't think that's good. It can work, but it's possible that you fail anyway.

>> No.1921230 [View]

Hmmm... Reading it again looks like you should choose just one of the subjects on the day and work on that. If that's so, them it's ok to spend 2 to 6 hours studying, i'ts not that much if you have nothing to do the entire day.

Are you Dave? Well, good luck, maybe It'll work if you're the kind of people who has no social life and obsess over something.

Yeah... After I figured that out it became easier to not procrastinate.

People are complaining, I get it, it's hard, you just want to get home and chill, but you'll get nowhere doing that... Stop wasting time with games and watching countless TV series/animes. Instead, scribble some shit for fun.

Even doing a 9-5 job I was going to a drawing course at the capital every week, traveling for 3:30 hours total and trying to learn, meet people working in the field and get motivated. The course was friday NIGHT, I had to make a bus trip of 2:30 hour(going and getting back home) and also take the subway for about 40min~1 hour... In the rush hour of São Paulo.
Usually I would be back home at 1:30AM. So the day was like... Get up at 6AM and go sleep at 1:30AM.

Ok, I'm still not working professionally, just some gigs, but I'll use next year to finally build a portfolio and try to keep the pace in at right now. :)
