Speed him up and skip the first three generously. Also skip when you think he's being repetitive, and go back if you see he isn't. Constant breaks and screaming for decades into your pillow also help with the frustration for Olson. You'll learn to appreciate him so much, he's literally the only teacher that tells you each and every pencil stroke it takes to draw the rest of the fucking owl

my life has been falling apart for so long now that motivation for anything of any kind is like a rare resource. i was fired yesterday and now i'm a NEET again with nothing but time. i stop any creative endevour the second it starts to feel like work. i'm losing interest in everything and now all of what occupies my time i am forcing myself to enjoy. even a competent initial level of performance can't get me to see anything to completion.

i have barely started or half finished drawings, piano pieces, programs, models, and media everywhere. i'm slowly turning into a barely sentient NPC, but my only desire in life was to be productive in the arts. at this point i just want to sleep for 16 hours a day. what can i do to enjoy the entire process of creating art, not just the end result? how can i get myself to enjoy simply drawing for the sake of drawing?
has anyone here clawed there way out of a hole?

>anyone can draw :^)

can someone walk me through how its possible for an artist with an obvious genetic advantage to peddle this shit?

what is the level an entirely average, unimaginative, person can realistically achieve?

I've wanted to be a conceptual artist basically as early as i can remember understanding the concept of the job.

are private art tutors that can realistically asses your skill ceiling hard to find?

not so much, he is a better teacher for people who are ready have basic drawing experience. skip the exercises beyond the mannequins and draw/study anatomy and then come back to the book again suddenly you will start getting it.

TD;DR; you will suck unless you know what your drawing, study anatomy and motion with a little bit of faces for a while then come back.

ahh, good times. i remember my first days with the book as well, it was a nightmare and it made me quit for like half a year. actual figure drawing and the heads and hands book gave me confidence to try again, i'm not telling you to buy that heads book since you don't really need it but its going to have to be hard way OP just start coping exercises and studying anatomy.

>It's just a bunch of cartooning exercises
Which is basically what most of /ic/ needs, with them coming here from their anime-character-from-imagination mindset.

It might not be the best instruction ever, but at least it pushes some people out of their comfort zones.

This is one of the worst art forums, so it barely fucking matters what's posted here anyway.

just to clarify what I mean is I feel I can do the starting stuff
>make a circle
>put another circle for a nose
>put lines above and below it for mouth and eye line.

and then

>draw the eyes cheeks, mouth, chin
It's like pic related, not that complicated but it's like, where did all these lines come from? I can just copy the lines he drew, but if I want to construct my own face I should be able to draw my own chin and stuff right? But I don't know where to put it.

Have a look at the ones on first page and you see what I mean. I drew odd shaped chins. In the book he tells you about the head being shaped like a circle but then things start moving away from being perfectly circle shaped without telling me what's going on and I'm staring at the book like what did he do? I wonder if I am just artistically retarded.
