Why You Should Copy Anime:
https://i.imgur.com/zNDsyF0.jpg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbKqIJcIUCw

**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

They take refs from multiple things. A pose from one photo, hair from another, colors from a nice landscape pic, composition from movie screengrabs. There's a guy that spends every day making perfume bottles into character designs. Work like a concept artist with a shit ton of refs and you can make whatever idea you want. Things from the imagination always stem from reality in some way, so this is fine. Good luck friend

first, you shouldnt just be copying but applying a method of info recall, thats how the brain truly learns and retains info, example would be copy from ref then redraw the ref from memory then compare and analyze and repeat the process once more, this will get you gains quicker

second, you should be doing your own stuff at same time as you practice, the ratio of this can depend on how much importance you give personal work vs study but as long as the personal work doesnt go beyond 50% of your art output you should be okay

Do you have counter-examples in mind? It's an important part of the equation here, to know exactly what you want to avoid. I get there's a big difference with the face, but for the body itself I think the difference between Western and Asian can sometimes overlap a bit, stylistically.

Like pic related (randomly picked from one of my folders) has pretty defined legs, and the art as a whole still doesn't look "western" to me, it works great. Change the face to something Western and the overall look would certainly feel quite different in return.
Another important point is whether you're painting or not. If you're doing lineart/cel-shading kind of work, it's easier for it to be feel more simplified and therefore less realistic.

Anyway I do feel like you're worrying too much.

yeah i know that when it comes to the body theres no much difference, but this kind of stylization is almost only a asian thing is borderline cartoonish but it does still have key parts of real anatomy but it doesnt look that close to real anatomy, this also makes it a little harder to deconstruct/study because is not as clear as a real body part to tell what is excatly what and from parts that are just stylized. this 2 pictures look simple but they are actually very intricate to understand.
when i attemp to try to replicate the style it looks too cartoonish or too realistic for my taste, 4 and 5 would be the realistc way what i want to avoid, and 1, 2, 3 are my attemps but they either look too simple or too close to ''realistic''.

I think the biggest point seems to the be way the knee is stylized. Muscle definition has more to do with feminity vs. masculanity, and this is relevant even in an Atelier setting drawing from life, where you'll be taught not to define muscles and shadows too much on a young female as to not age or define her too much (unless it's the goal).
So say if you're drawing a sports manga about volleyball girls, you'll want something like 4 & 5 unless you're drawing moeblobs playing, since people who are into sports will be interested in seeing such details on your female figures. If you envision it I'm sure you can see what I'm trying to convey.

But anyway, I do get what you're saying because I have similar taste. I think learning the kind of ideal you have here asks you to go by a sort of "symbol drawing logic" similar to how certain features of the face have to be drawn depending on the view angle. It's something that is hard to teach because ultimately everyone develops their own way of going about it, and it gets harder when it comes to anime because what works for someone might end up being a bad habit to another.

I guess we just gotta draw lol.

it's her left hand (from her perspective) covering her snatch and not her right. if you made her right hand on her hip or something it would break the weird illusion that she has an extendo wrist. additionally your perspective is off a bit for her shoulders, you squared them up a little bit too much. also I'd recommend you define the fingers in the crotch area more since that's one of the main focal areas, meaning you want it to look as good as possible.
i also added in her left elbow to make it even more readable, it might not be 100% anatomically correct but I feel it helps the drawing more than hurts
overall advice to you is that you can't be afraid to change up your ref to make things more readable

your res is fine, your image is struggling because you are mixing two different methods of achieving tone, your line art brush is heinous and is producing greys. where as your screen tones are black, also avoid erasing at the screen tone layer, to achieve a gradient, draw the gradient in full-tone then convert it.

How do i improve my pulse for curves?
My attempt at curves (top part) suck and has 0 precision.
Check both hairs on the bottom part. These curves are perfect, flow without any trembling and have surgeon-tier precision.

The left one has long curve pairs that are super close to each other, creating long thin locks of hair. Super fine pairs of curves that create fine locks of hair too.

The right one has lots of curve pairs of almost the SAME size, creating lots of locks of hair of equal size, also super fine locks.

It's a critical skill to draw anime hair and i lack it.

the arms are too long overall, and the two upper arms are not equal length, and the forearms are much too long relative to the upper arm. in a T pose, human wingspan is equal to our height, and elbows are halfway from breastbone to fingertips.

the lengths of fingertips to elbow = elbow to breastbone = elbow to base of skull if arms at side = heel to base of knee = base knee to hip bone = 1/4th height.
and this should hold true whether a character is 5 heads tall or 10 heads tall.

I understand you were focused on the line style, but in the process you seem to have forgotten about the underlying 3D forms. The chest and skirt areas in yours are flat and the wrinkles don't make sense.

It's also necessary to understand why thin or thick lines are used. A thicker line will imply clothes wrinkling more due to folding onto itself, etc.
Give this a watch it just came out and is pretty relevant to the exercise you just did and should give you good insight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVAyBj7Ho5I

Is it just me or a lot of beginners' anime faces look off especially in the 3/4 angle because the cheek on the far end always protrudes more than it should?

But then I have seen pro artists pulling it off like picrel and it still looks cute. I don't get it, can someone explain this stuff to me?

It's a bit dirty on some parts take care of that. You tried to grasp the 3d form that's good. But always be aware of the light source. I'm pretty sure that rib shadow shouldn't be a thing.
Also another thing I heard a while back is to try and shade simple as a beginner and not overdo it with the blurring and airbrushing. See picture related, very simple but efficient shading.

The shading here is actually quite elaborate, it's just not obvious because of the lack of contrast on her skin. Try desaturating it and checking.

I think the idea is there overall. I would make the base a bit lighter, the blush less pronounced, blur/remove some of the hard shadow around the hips, abs and pelvis. Also i personally like to add a very light gradient/airbrush job as a second layer of base, it seems to give the skin more life.
Overall, once again, you definitely got the basic process (at least as far as i understand it anyway).

https://www.notion.so/krenz-color-new-week-1-026666f8bf7d4cb4815d111b016daeee"

I would recommend how colors work by doing paintings manually picking all the colors yourself from life and from other paintings first. Marco Bucci's videos on Ambient Occlusion and Ambient Shadow colors are basically all you need to understand how colors desaturate/saturate and shift hue depending on the lighting.
Once you understand this, you can use Krenz's process to setup the ambient color of the shadows (Multiply) and the color of the main light (Color Dodge). You start of using desaturated colors first, and then use separate layer like Overlay to add saturation variation into the skin and other parts. After this, you'll notice certain materials like gold and the diamonds I painted wont look right, so then you pull up ref of those materials and manually adjust the colors for those by painting on a Normal layer above the other ones (at this stage you can also repaint areas,smooth/sharpen up things as well).
Hope that helps.
