The Frazetta challenge was stupid IMO.
It's pretty well-known that shorter periods (<2 hours) of focused practice with breaks in between are far more effective than straight hours and hours of grind.
Plus, there's no way working for that long is good for you physically. It sounds like a great way to injure yourself.
Finally, yeah, that shit's not any fun. What a great way to burn yourself out and feel unmotivated for the rest of the week.

I bet the people who did the Frazetta challenge will find that they've hardly improved at all from it, and made less gains than they would have doing their regular routine,
and they'll also make far less progress for the rest of the week due to lack of motivation, soreness, and wrist pain.
But it was worth it for that 3 prestige badge, right?

Advice please.
I get crazy stressed out from challenges since I get wound up over making art that is good.
I'm a /beg/, and I'm fine with my studies or regular dad work looking /beg/ tier.
But with challenges, I must give my absolute best, and I can't stand it if my submission makes someone say "this is good...for a /beg/"

>>4569495
Know your absolute best isn't always going to be the best thing ever. That's what makes you a beginner.
"Trying harder" and being too worried about your results often leads to frustration, stress, and blockages in your mind, rather than better work.
The best work comes about when you are relaxed and able to maintain good focus on what you're doing, without so much judging or worrying. The solution is to watch your focus itself, and redirect it when it wanders.
Your mind keeps wandering to what others might think, and part of your mind might try to convince you that's how you make something good, or that it's important to think about, but it's just a distraction.
When you notice yourself wandering to those thoughts, gently put your mind back on the work. You don't need to comment on your worries, feel bad for being stressed, or criticize yourself for your mind having wandered (those things are also distractions).
Just bring your mind back to figuring out the work in front of you, to exploring and learning. That's how you do your best.
When your focus is fully there, you won't be stressed, because what is stressful about exploring and learning, about the pencil and the page?
As your mind keeps wandering somewhere else, and you notice it wander, and you put it back on the work, you're simply not giving your mind the time to worry. After a little while, the stress will diminish as you become more immersed in just making your art.

There’s a reason the few anons with slowly decaying mental health say to grab what you need and get the fuck out. There’s a reason why rapid autists scared off all the old drawfags from here (teal being one of them). There’s a reason why Banana’s so mentally unstable while NicNac seems generally fine. Recently, people have brought up the notion that the streak changes should be a little less "all-or-nothing". Especially in cases when people have accrued an extremely significant streak, like 100+, there is a strong, and sometime overwhelming sense of loss aversion that leads to the need to preserve it, which can lead to some ultimately unproductive mentalities: i.e., not taking breaks when you need to, drawing because compelled and not because you want to or drawing 30 minutes of useless stuff for the sake of maintaining a number. For some people, especially folks on page one, this can be mentally excruciating.
The possibility that was raised that you could change your streak downward in frequency without penalty a maximum of once per month, significantly more permissive than the current halving functionality that currently exists. I sort of feel like this is a touch too permissive (it costs nothing to change back up, and how often would one even need to lower their streak in the first place)? This would allow people to get a breather of sorts and jump back in. I personally have played with the idea of "penalized vacations", where you can take a small break at a flat cost of some of your streak (-14 to take a week off, etc). I've also thought of notion of checkpoints (elimination returns you to your latest checkpoint), or "partial eliminations", you lose somewhere between 25-50% of your streak and when you return, you would start off wherever that was.

There are some counter-arguments. Streak is just an arbitrary number on an obscure website goes that encourages you to draw. Some people even find it compelling for the same reason others find it agonizing: it basically forces you to keep working, and eventually build a habit. Moreover, the proposed solution can be unfair to people who have already dropped high streaks if implemented. The seasonal challenges were also designed to lower importance of the DAD streak, emphasizing habitual commitments manageable to you over habitual posting.
It's important to consider what DAD is intended to do, and that's not just to keep people drawing, but also getting the most out of it. DAD may be inspired by its predecessors, but we've changed a lot; we are not beholden to the dogma of the original LAS (which was literally draw every day or be eliminated). It's why I've hesitated so in implementing topic challenges, which in proof of implementation turned out to be a really awful beginner's trap and a painful drag for those trapped in it. If there is a smart way to keep the competitive spirit of trying to numerically demonstrate your commitment to learning art alongside others with the same ambition, without ultimately damaging the well-being of its participants, being unfair to previous participants or stunting the users' growth and development as artists, this solution is what I personally feel DAD should embrace.
Lastly, we should ask how important this is relative to the now-severely-delayed DAD 2.0. Depending on how difficult the solution, I may have to defer it to later. However, if the fix is relatively simple, and there is significant support behind the proposed changes, I can prioritize it over the other features (for reference once-a-month frequency changes should not constitute more than a few dev hours).
What do you think? What solution works best, or are things fine as is? If you think things need fixing, how pressing do you actually think they are?

The very idea that someone can't find at least 30 minutes to draw daily is ridiculous. 30 minutes isn't long enough to "lead to unproductive mentalities" like "not taking breakes", because it's simply not enough effort to warrant a break.
I honestly believe that site is just fine as it is and high streaks are just bitching for no real reason.

>The possibility that was raised that you could change your streak downward in frequency without penalty a maximum of once per month
>I sort of feel like this is a touch too permissive
I agree. A more fair approach would be once per level - lower streaks that still don't know what frequency works for them would have more freedom, while higher would have much less. Just an idea.

I think allowing frequency decreases would devalue the site both as a habit tracker and a competition.
Lenience gives more opportunities for people who haven't fully developed their drawing habit to make excuses or procrastinate.
Changing streaks makes people who have been using the site longer more firmly entrenched, harming competitiveness. Sure, you can eventually pass them up in theory, but if someone's been using the site a year or two longer than you, it's going to take a *lot* of breaks to pass them up.

>For some people, especially folks on page one, this can be mentally excruciating.
Is it really a problem that requires solving? Some anons pointed out that it sounds like they're whining for no real reason - it's not like losing your streak have any consequences in the reality.

>> No.4571838

>>4571832
This, what the fuck do they expect.
>uh, sorry, mister anon..it seems that in your DAD account you dont have a streak longer than 500. Its unfortunate but it seems you wont be getting this job, but keep up the work, and once you reach the 500 peak, give us a call.

>> No.4571849

>>4571832
>>4571838
I have a feeling the people who complain about streaks are the same ones who complain about the pressure to maintain quality work to post on DAD.
The two concepts go hand in hand, if you can break the perception that the things you post need to all be to a certain quality/standard, posting a 30min drawing is nothing. DAD is a habit tracker and just a little extra push to get you to draw every day.

Am I surprised? Imagine my jaw drop.

How hard is it to post your drawing or not post your drawing? You take a vacation you lose everything, not “deduct” from your fictitious blue bar of feel good boy points. But by all means please implement retardation for my amusement.

>> No.4572236

Here are my thoughts
1. I like streak freezes but you have to "earn it" say every 10 days you get 1 day off. It encourages you to rack those up so breaks arent meaningless
2. Can we have levels after 26 again? Knowing that at 26 there is just an impossible 99999999 barrier is depressing. I think stuff like (712 days until next level) is humorous

>> No.4572237

coronavirus doesn't form "clouds". coronavirus is to heavy to hang in the air. you have to touch the infected surface and then touch your face, mouth, nose, eyes, etc.
