sure i can try but most of my tips are just obvious advice that people have trouble following

1. draw every day and make a presentable picture to post every day. try not to flood with WIPs that youre never gonna finish. if you cant drawa every day (you can) at least get 4 or 5 solid pieces out a week

2. dont flood your feed with status updates on you or your life, people dont care. dont post anything controversial either, generally dont touch topics that people like to argue about at all (politics, gay people, celeb drama)

3.know your target audience and find successful artists within that genre and try to emulate the aesthetic or what seems to be a common theme throughout those artists' works.

4. Fundamentals. Anywhere you want to be in art, fundamentals will either get you there or improve your current work.

5. analytics, if certain posts get popular try to identify what made them so successful and replicate that without making an identical post, monitor your stats on social media to see whats working and what isnt.

6. branding, try to get an icon that will catch eyes, and a banner or page theme that seems slick and modern as well as previewing what you're offering. As a loose rule i try not to retweet art that is significantly better than my own as it tends to make my own work look worse by comparison.

all in all i think the most important things are to be consistent and appealing to the broadest possible audience. also just dont be rude

How does duolingo do it again? I think you can earn credits from a streak or from achievements or something and then use them to get a single token for if you miss a day. You could earn a token from streak or from doing X number of challenges or something.

On this topic:
I think the last time we opened this discussion, we deemed it being somewhat unfair to some of the high streak individuals who lost their streak for tokens to be implemented now. As a compromise, I was to implement an "ascension system" that grants you 1 ascension every 365 days, allowing you to break your streak then and go for another ascension later, or continue your streak from 0 (your real streak will still be tracked).

Alternatively, or even additionally, we can consider the implementation of tokens when the last flawless streak is broken (I have no idea when in hell that would be). Another possibility that I have mulled over in my head is a "vacation" item purchasable with DADCoin.

Essentially, you get to take time off DAD at the cost of some large percentage of your streak, like:
> Take a day off, 20-30% streak reduction.
> Take 3 days off, 25-40% streak reduction.
> Take a week off, 35-50% streak reduction.
Or something like that. Just spitballing ideas.

Alternatively, we could just keep in mind that since we already have both DAD and the Seasonal Challenges, that streaks are no longer as important as they once were (all site features are unlocked at level 5 if i recall correctly), and that DAD's modus operandi has differed from the previous instances in that the focus is shifted onto building habitual participation (seasonal challenges) rather than obsessive daily grinding.

Of course, I welcome discussion or suggestions on this topic.

The goal of the site (assuming it remains unchanged from LAS) is to give little motivating nudges towards wanting to do more art every day. So tokens feel counterproductive to me, and instead I would say there should be more shorter goal markers that people can feel good about.

Setting aside the ascension and tokens for a second, one big improvement for the motivation aspect of the website would be a very, very obvious progress tracker on every page. That top navigation bar on the site has plenty of real estate to show your progress to the next level. The front page could also stand to have a similar bar section to emphasize "This is how far you've come! Keep going!" The way the site is currently set up, I don't even know what my streak is unless I click on my profile. Since the whole reason for being here is to keep the ball rolling I think having your progress presented as an achievement on every page would be a great addition.

So now back to tokens/ascension. I think rather than tokens what would make people feel more motivated is to get regular badges or something with each level gained. Instead of simply having text on your level meter, have a new graphical badge (like you would get in a lot of video games nowadays, increasing in size/material as you ascend the ranks). So this wraps back to what I was saying before about having your progress be very obvious. At the top of each page is your progress bar and your current badge level. The goal is to get to 1 year of continuous art, at which point you get the highest level of badge. You then "prestige" over into a new badge system (which would be the same badge system as before, but now you have a permanent indicator of having achieved one full year as well - perhaps a border on the badge).

There is a reason video games have levels, badges, and constant "achievements." It's addictive and keeps you coming back, and that's what a site like this should be aiming to mimic.

You know it's possible to go over 24 hours without drawing while still keeping your streak that doesn't involve drawing ahead or anything illegal. All you have to do it draw and submit early one day ( the first 30 minutes after rollover) and you'll have over 40+ hours before you have to submit again. It's OK to take a break. It's OK to lose your streak. I don't think this needs to be built into the system though. By adding these complexities, it detracts from the actual creating by encouraging the user to focus more on dad and their streak, not drawing.
The focus should be on art, not on systems to palliate streak loss.
Frankly, I feel like all of the features proposed are unnecessary.

That's true and you can, but you can't deny that your opinions will be more colored the more the artist makes themselves the art, as opposed to having it a separate entity. By degrees, there's a difference in perception between those who use a handle and those who use their real names, those who use an avatar and those who use a photo, those who keep their personal lives separate and on the opposite end say those who make art for political reasons. I don't know about good or bad, both can serve a purpose. But if you want to judge the art based solely on its own merits, for example technically, then you jeopardize that by knowing things about the person you don't need to. Basically it's an easy trap to fall into and none of us are immune to it. If your aim is to have a whole picture of the person and why they made it and how the art came to be, then you want to know the person as well. But you can never guarantee that you won't have biases that you may yourself not want

I think I'd much rather live unburdened with worries of biases and objective critique, and simply experience the expression behind a work as full as I possibly can. A work is a window into a person, knowing a bit about what's on the other side of that window can help make what you see clearer.

Why does being biased matter? Dad is a community and it’s kind of expected to become familiar with people in the community. I’d imagine most of us are active in dad because drawing can be somewhat lonely.
