old game covers and art in general had so much fucking soul. I feel like it was the use of traditional drawings and coloring, at least a part of it was.

However, I also love the old PS1 gen covers with the 3D modeling. Yes, they were uncanny but they really drove home that you were playing a videogame. That seems to be looked down upon now, as games try to be like movies nowadays.
