I don’t have tats and have friends across the value spectrum, some conservative with tattoos and some liberal with no tattoos or piercings. Almost every Instagram model has tattoos. Tattoos aren’t forbidden at any of the offices I’ve encountered, which include high income architectural and engineering firms. I’ve only seen tattoos frowned upon in my travels to Asia and at least in Japan and Korea, they’re more open to it.

The easiest way to make friends with other artists would probably be to find artists who share the same niche as you. For example you could find artists who are into drawing nature/animals, fanart for a certain fandom, furries, cute girls or boys, mechas, concept art, superheros, etc.

I notice a lot internet artists who seem to be close friends usually share a common niche that they both draw. Also if you're ethnic or whatever, it might be worth to try to connect with art groups that share the same ethnicity with you. I notice many artists like to promote other artists from the same ethnic group or culture.

I don't actively engage with the art community where I live but I do attend regular events There are a lot of younger and older women who are more conservative or family orientated kind of women who have their own clique in the community. I'm not sure where you live but if you live in an community with an active art scene, would not hurt to tote around some stuff to show with other artists who are up your alley. These points may seem petty, but the allover impression of a painting can be disturbed by those tiny details. Also, really try to prime your canvas first with a wash - grey, yellow, orange, blue, whatever you want to work from. It really helps and it doesn't take long at all, especially with these cheap canvas types, which look awful when they are untreated. You can even try to sandpaper the structure off. I find that that also helps a lot.

The teeth thing is mostly because they're left as exposed canvas. I liked the idea of leaving some part of the painting undone. Kind of a production porn thing maybe? Like pic related is one that was started when I was doing blacks on everything, and not brushing teeth, and then it was painted on again like 6 months later, so now you can see the blank canvas on the teeth, the black void on the mouth from the year one bullshit, and then the blues and LSD impressionism thing from year 2 on top.

a primer or wash can be applied evenly or with a slight texture. yours >>3596913 shows a lot of texture and it's a bit too thick to be calling it a wash. a real wash is really made by deluding acrylic paint with more water, like acrylic to water 1:3 more or less.

yeah that wasn't the bestone to highlight. I've been focusing a lot on using gessos and matte gels and stuff to build texture on the underlayer before painting on top. I still like a lot of the exposed canvas ones but basically everything since July has been hit with a goops and gunks under everything.

I wouldn't use as much color for a wash. What a wash basically does for you is lose the cheap canvas texture a bit. You would usually just apply a light shade of color for a wash, like a very light orange or a light, deluded preussian blue. If you plan on using skin colors (in your case, very relevant) you want to use warm colors like a yellow that is tipping towards orange or light ochre and so on. if you work with semi-translusent colors or glazes, you can put cold color tones on top of warm ones, warm colors on top of cold .... that way, the layer underneath is still partly shining through to the top layers, giving the color more depth.
this is only possible with acrylics that are transparent or mixed with acrylic medium to make them thinner. (in oils, it is often much easier, the colors can be bought transparent or opaque from the start)

to summarize: a wash should be light, thin, deluded.
make the decision of using either a cold or a warm color to prime.
the wash or primer underneath doesn't necessarily need to follow the dynamic of the motif of the painting already, but it should definitely not look like you were painting a part of a wall, unmotivated and too even..,

Yeah wash isn't necessarily the right term anymore but it features more water in the mix than normal I guess. Here's an example of one that I did with just transparent gesso and water with no paint mixed in.

I've been goofing with different opacities on the underlayer since I've been leaning into practicing doing thick line grids and writing pissy notes and stuff on the canvas during the drawing phase.

Yeah I've done a couple with bright underlayers for more psychedelic looking shit (drinking bitter better drunk.jpg, yuck.jpg, chloeesh.jpg for example). The purples/reds/blues works for building faces on top of though. Then you can just progressively layer on top the reds, yellows, highlights, etc on top without risking ruining everything by stacking darks on top of lights as much.

Thing is, I suppose I was a bit vague earlier. By sjws I mean ones who constantly get offended about you making a small joke about "lol women are emotional, you know those silly women are hard to understand" and despite being female myself, I get very angry comments, despite explaining it is just a joke. The only Christian rule against tattoos is in the old testament, around the part where they say not to shave your beard or eat shellfish. All of my brother's tattoos are bible references and mostly in conspicuous areas. If the other pastors were so against tattoos, he wouldn't have his job. Also, different religious leaders have different interpretations of the bible so not all pastors are going to have a consensus, the same way not all conservatives have a consensus on lifestyle choices (like I tried to point out in my previous post, but it looks like that went over your head).
