>> No.2276768

>>2276729
Inspiration, impetus. Generally, the people in the artbook are better than you, so to take cues from them wouldn't be a bad idea. I believe that it gets easier to study and draw/paint when you have the right tools and know how to use them.

Which is why beginners should not go out buying every how to book and pencil type under the sun. I almost feel into this trap. My first books were Betty Edwards (took me two years to take it seriously), Loomis, and Mark Crilley. The latter lead me to the former, which pushed me to the first, because Loomis is pretty intimidating for a beginner. No one is there to tell you how to construct the forms or start out, and the trial and error leads easily to frustration.

I think I'm good enough that I don't need 'art fundamentals' books anymore and I'm ready to develop my own style. But I downloaded some artists' sketchbooks and l'm not sure if they'll actually be helpful to me. They're so stylized I'm worried they'll either fuck up my grasp on anatomy, or I'll end up jacking their style.

>> No.2276837

Anyone have "The Artist's Guide to Sketching" by Gurney & Kinkade?

>> No.2276885

>>2276783
Jacking their style isn't something I'd worry about if I were you, quite honestly. My goal is to be a proficient artist, to learn. Like Peter Han said in the dynamic sketching videos, "If it works for you, take it, if it doesn't, leave it behind."

For me the goal of looking at their sketchbooks is to see how they set their minds on something and how they went about it. Were they haphazard and careless, or did they tackle it with a plan, anatomy sketches on this page and notes at the bottom, practice sketches on the next and bits from imagination on the third?

If I find the artist inspiring, look up to them, admire their skill, I will try to understand what they were thinking and adopt that. No shame in that, trying to be better than you are.

If an artist started doing value studies or animals and that gets your hackles raised and makes you wanna dip your toe in the pool, go right ahead. Follow their lead, they've been there and they've paved that road. Even better if a more skilled artist has done that also. Take ingredients from all of these people and build your own, unique stew.

So ask yourself, "What do I stand to gain by looking at this?" Question yourself about what to look for, about what questions to even ASK.

But i regards to stylization, I'd say don't forget that they still needed to know the basics in order to do that. You got your shit down, that's great, but when you're drawing after these people just back yourself up with the foundation. Compare and contrast and ask why things are the way they are in comparison to what, and wonder how they changed it and how to do it yourself.

Getting art books for the sake of getting art books isn't the point. They're just collections of art by artists you like. You can learn from them by comparing the things the artist does to get a result you find pleasing.
You can just as well have a folder of all his art on your computer and do the same thing, though the books sometimes have notes from the artist or sketches that aren't available elsewhere.

being poor isn't an excuse to steal.

Shit like this is why I hate people. All they think about is themselves. There are no good people left.

Being a selfish greedy cunt isn't a point of pride. Spending $3-$5 on a video someone spent god knows how many hours planning and constructing isn't going to break your bank. It's supporting the very industry you want to get into.

With a bright smile on my face, making everybody feel warm inside. Afterwards I'll torrent your shit and not give half a fuck. Because I'm not here to help you, nobody is. That's not how life works.
Just by your mere presence inside the industry you're sucking up space.

Yeah, it's wonderful ain't it? I mean the sculpture, not the common conception of futanari (huge dicks, etc).

I once saw an illustration of a futanari (read: japanese or asian) in a book. I can't remember which one it was, but it was some olden type of porn, and was sucking its own dick, or something.

>>2285730
Ah, I misspelled it. Hermpahroditus was the son of Appolo and Aphrodite, and was a very beautiful, handsome bboy. He was molested by a waternymph, Salmacis, who was overtaken with lust for him, and the gods combined the two.

Reminds me of something I once read. The was a creature so powerful, with four arms and legs and two faces, two voices, that even Zeus feared it. So he separated it into man in woman. Te only god Zeus ever feared, I tin, was Nix (or Nyx).
