not bad, its got soul. her snoot looks a little too much like a beak tho, and their expressions could use a little work. they seem a little out of it and spacey. you could turn the top's eyebrows up and make her eyes a bit less squinty and roll her pupils up more. the bottom's expression could be altered to smile with teeth and flip his eyebrow to be more devilish.

the physics of the leash doesn't really make sense here. as you've drawn it here, this is more like a whip motion. idk if it would work for the comp but so you could try having the bottom's arm come back more and be more strained, and pull the leash taught.

so, pro tip. this is where you do a study.
draw all the parts from the ref as seen, get some other refs of the same thing in different angles and copy those, then once you have it figured out, you come back to your drawing and try drawing it at the angle you need.

Nta, and maybe this makes me a bad artist or human or whatever, but I'm definitely not doing a multi-hour study every time I want to draw a single object for one picture. You're better off just learning simple construction and grinding THAT than a specific object. There's literally not enough time in the world to do studies of every object you might draw.

Thankfully guns can be simplified into very simple shapes.

From the little I have sold, its worked alright. Its all auction-based, mind you. A lot of piss prices are just starting prices that can shoot up provided it gets enough attention.
What I see people do a lot is set tiers. You won't be doing a full render if they don't go past a certain amount you'd be comfortable doing a full render for. So long as those terms are laid out on the posting it should be alright. But it's OK to be weary, mileage may vary. It's just the one other alternative I look at.

How do you get the final positioning of the lines down first try? Is there some kind of exercise? I always have to spend a lot of time refining and adjusting my unappealing and messy sketches, before it starts to look like something.

Nta, but I have to do the same thing. It's impossible for me to get the lines I want with one stroke, so I have to go back and adjust. Thankfully I enjoy the process.
Unless your style is very painterly and doesn't rely as much on the linework, I don't think you'll ever get away from the refinement stage. You'll always have to go back and manually adjust something, whether that be taper or ambient occlusion or whatever else.

I didn’t do any exercises to get lines down on the first try; it’s more of a conditioning thing thanks to my tutor. She does the same, and it just rubbed off on me. Also, the pose wasn’t that complicated, nor was Meowscarada herself, so that helped.

I usually take longer to draw hands, backgrounds, and similar details, often needing to go back and fix things a few times. However, the pose itself is something I can usually nail on the first try.

It's interesting that you chose to put a lot of detail into the machines, keeping in line with your general preference for close-medium character shots, and you were very conservative with the cyborgification.
As for the why of the request, I guess I like to see people take things outside of their comfort zone.(Though personally, I shamelessly trace when it's a complex machine.) Picrel is what I would imagine for my request.

It's hard to tell what you're doing wrong when we don't have a point of reference. But I'd say in general, be aware of the constraints of your style. Anime girls like picrel don't have fully modeled jaws, so an anime girl yawn wouldn't follow a real yawn very well.

Also, people tend to yawn with their eyes closed. Yawning with eyes open is a bit harder to communicate.

Sorry, I just forgot to post my attempt earlier. Maybe kemono or anime wasn’t the best description of my style, but I do have a lot of eastern influence. I like to have some presence of the snout and try to stay away from looking too human. The face on the bottom is a quick sketchy example of how I usually draw faces and the other two are attempts with the eyes open and closed.

It’s kind of hard when doing animals with such a long snout because If you put too much, it loses its cuteness and just looks like a monster, but if you put too little, it just looks like a strange looking human.

I get what you mean. I did a whole page earlier of just trying the yawning expression with eyes open and I just couldn’t get it right. I just couldn’t keep it looking cute.

the best rule of thumb when making hats for furries (or for any clothes for that matter) is to just follow the shape of the skull and fit the helmet to the shape of the head, and consider how the hair interacts when being pressed down by a headwear, you could draw the ears pressed down unless your style/preference is otherwise, different species all have different head shapes and styles so it depends, study and ref actual real life helmets to get a good idea of that

I am really digging the snake on the bottom right, she has a nice roundness to her, which makes her cute, but with a hint of sharpness like the little fangs and the eyes that make her which balances it out and adds some coolness, she's by far the best in terms of style and design in my opinion, I just think her eye may not be fully conforming to the shape of the skull that you defined underneath.

The bovine and the dino are my second favorites, with both of them looking like character portraits the could've been from an old DOS game.
Now, some of the others have some problems. The deer especially kinda looks like if an old actress played a deer character in a movie directed by the same guy who made cats, the front plane of her face also isn't well defined and her eye seems to wrap around the sphere of her head in an unsettling manner. Zebra's red hair looks strange, and it also stands out because no other character you drew has hair. Cat looks a bit funny and seems to have an eternal forehead.
Still, I dig it.

The zebra is the most different because I was testing if is cooler to make with or without hair and the deer I was aiming more to a disneyish approach on the overall shape and style and I think it stands out too much in comparison to the other characters the snake I had the problem shaping the skull with the flaps on the sides I also did this one to use as a profile picture

I have all the script done, some sprites half colored and some backgrounds, but as the script is in first draft possibly some backgrounds will end up unused.

- Draw a line downward from the place where her ear and jaw meet, that should be where the back of the neck is
- Her right eye is wrapping around her face as if its a decal; the eyes sit recessed in the skull, compare with how it looks in life/pic related
- Careful about those pupil sizes not matching up
- Line weights are all over the place, should the neck fluff have the boldest lines in the whole piece?
- The smooth contour of her far cheek is harming the fluffy look that you're going for, you could lessen it or remove it entirely

Personally I just use line weight to show ambient occlusion or wherever I wanna emphasize a strong form or silhouette
It's mostly vibes, but importantly it's good to learn to vary your line weight within a single stroke, so practicing drawing a bunch of curves that go light-heavy-light or heavy-light-heavy gives great mileage

There's other ways to learn. Ideally, you want to understand form. Without the grasp of form, your drawings will always look off no matter how much you color it.
