How difficult is it to build an online career with pixelart? They say you have to pick a niche, something you can be known for, is pixelart something like that or do I have to pick a niche within a niche in this case?

pic related not mine

If you draw coom pixel art then it would probably be pretty easy, but I don't draw so idk

I imagine it's hard. I doubt many people would be getting commissions from you and in order to find work you'd need to create fake screenshots of games using your art to prove you could help someone make a game.
Not really sure what other paths there are for pixel artists although I don't know too many artists in that area.

Do artists who use pixel art as a medium earn through commissions or assets for game development? I can't imagine someone would pay hundreds of dollars for a tiny picture

>They say you have to pick a niche
Depends on what they mean by niche? It could be the artstyle within pixelart, what kind of subject matter you tackle, or what specific type of game genre your pixel art evokes (and therefore likely to be hired for).
If they're just talking about subject matter, I wouldn't fuss about it too much - people tend to have a limited amount of subjects they're really interested in, and you should just comfortably draw those; you'll naturally create your niche without trying.

I feel like that account is botted. For all their followers and likes their images get, they seem to have few people actually saying anything in their replies.
And Botting just seems like something a desperate AI faggot would do.

Probably something like "draw female knights in bikinis'" or "draw vtubers in medieval"

This is AI. They either clean it up and apply a filter but they are definitely using AI to use it as a base for the image.

The same people that will like your regular art unfortunately. It's not like that's an isolated case either.

If you want to get into pixel art coom is the easiest, coom animations are even better. Otherwise why even bother, just draw normal art unless you want to do pixel art for a game. OP is really lacking in a lot of vital information honestly like most threads similar to this are

desu pixelart will always have its niche but the nostalgia boat has sailed from pixelart to low poly graphics so it might be a lot harder unless you're good. The trick is to appeal to nostalgia and target communities that would be likely to enjoy pixel art in your marketing : Gen Y, starwdew valley, etc etc.

What does OP really want to do in terms of a career? Does he want to get notice by gamedevs and do pixel art for that? Is he willing to do porn? How much does he want to make? Does he actual have any level of skill or is he at level 0 like most people that make threads like these?

>What does OP really want to do in terms of a career?
Pixelart, some gamedev on the side
>Does he want to get notice by gamedevs and do pixel art for that?
If the opportunity arises, sure
>Is he willing to do porn?
I wouldn't want to unless I had to
>How much does he want to make?
I don't know how to answer this question
>Does he actual have any level of skill or is he at level 0 like most people that make threads like these?
I don't know how to describe myself exactly, so let's say that I'm not /ic/ regular, draw on a daily basis and heard from people that my drawings are good/great given my experience, I can't do things like pic related but I'm also not some /beg/ crab or anything like that.

most pixelartists that i see online are mostly into at least some form of animation, it really depends on what you want to do, most i see do game graphics, but theres also a bunch of people that just do what they desire
a lot of variety (including gamedev)
https://x.com/Franrekk
https://x.com/sy0sa (my favourite) the blog is outstanding
https://x.com/TofuPixel
https://x.com/SovanJedi (very very good animator)
Horny / relatable animator
https://x.com/GA_SooT (good for cheering you up, smooth animations)
Illustrator / simple animator
https://x.com/Dei_Septentrion (unique style, most niche one here)
https://x.com/NOP_Pixels
mostly just characters, some gamedev in the past:
https://x.com/1856601 (king)
theres a loooot of people tho that do gamedev, especially if you want to get money. its like with everything else in art, just do it on a side and dont focus on building a career, most likely youll just fail and its really not worth risking it. but pixelart should be able to earn you money if you want to focus on that, i imagine the fail quota to regular digital artists being a bit lower, as they are just less of them? also sorry for sending the most normie pixelartists, but i suppose those were some of the top of my head. Im trying to get into pixelart somewhat myself, so i wish you luck on your journey.

This guy is just pixelizing AIshit. Yes, it's not a filter, but still. You can see the sudden change after 2022.

It's pretty easy. Just participate in pixel dailies and use the appropriate tags

https://x.com/Pixel_Dailies

and possibly partake in the normal art challenges for particular months.

The important part is consistency either post everyday, a couple of times a week, just do it on a routine schedule.

I follow some of the guys you linked and they are great. And yeah, for now I have a main job and do pixelart on the side as you said, but I'd like it to become my main thing. I'm starting from 0 tho and I'm not as good as others, but I won't give up. Thank you and also good luck anon.

Hard to tell, looks like he was making some skilled stuff before 2022. I get the feeling he's using AI to generate ref/designs and working from that, def feel the sudden loss of soul

No one hire an artist who only does pixelart.
