I would say your strengths are in your use of color and facial expressions. Seems to me that perspective and composition are you biggest weaknesses right now. Looks like you are going for stylized illustrations so I'm critiquing it with that in mind. If your intentions were different then some stuff may not apply.

Maybe a bit more foreshortening on the sword would look better. The red phones and red apples with wings(?) overlapping make things unclear. Not sure what the red thing behind her is meant to be either. The bottom left one is very hard to read. The extreme tilt and wonky perspective make it hard to tell what's going on. Paying close attention to the silhouette (pic related) should help with the overlapping stuff.
Depends on the style you want but I think thinner lines and colored lineart would look better. The top right one without lines has nicer shapes than the others (although the shadows could be darker), combining both would look good.
Their joints look very strange. At first I thought it was just bad anatomy. Took me a while to understand that they are dolls. The wind-up handle and joints could stand out more to make it more obvious.

In general the backgrounds seem lazy. For quick and easy ones, just use compositional design elements like in these videos:

The silhuettte / clarity thing might be my biggest issue I see.
But some nice things to work on for sure!

>>7278614
It feels like there's 3 different focal points, with the hand the hammer and the face.
I know making characters faces look at the main focal point is a pretty good technique.Ø
So I would makehim look at the hand for example.

Awesome! It's really a great style for yugioh paintings imo

>>7279586
Actually spooky! NICE

I'm no good with comp, but if I were to critique I would say put something very close to the camera for depth, or give some more space between the camera and the rocks for like a "I'm getting closer to these gross rocks" kinda feel... Hopefully that makes sense lol

oh yeah sure. i can trace back my art journey to the artists that influenced me.
Starting out reading manga i loooved bleach so i did alot of copying from tite kubo.
Then a major influence one me was Ayami kojima, you are correct, big turning point for me. both her and Yoshitaka amano have too very, "complimentary" vibes, i tried to take the aspects i liked from both of them and try to emulate them. i also love Kazuma kaneko.

Now here's the most important for me, When i started more seriously studying art, a Biiiiiiig turning point for me was an artist called Jun Suemi/Gen Jun Miya. Painting never made sense to me until i started analyzing his breath taking work, if i had to point to an artist and say "i wanna be like him" it would be jun suemi. if i ever forget how to paint faces or something i just take a glance at his art book.

And now currently i just look at my twitter feed and bookmark the stuff i find interesting, plenty of good artists on twitter. here are some of my favorites : wendys008

I personally think it's like 90% finnished (aka not enough just yet, but basically there)

Alot of things still seem very undefined, as in unreadable.

But I think simply just making more defined edges / silhuette on stuff would take it to 100%.

And a lil extra thing I would do is to make the cloth more blurry at the front.

Here's a overpaint I did to show what I mean:
https://files.catbox.moe/lyme0y.png

I barely touched it but to me it already looks alot better. Not alot of worked needed to be honest

Tone down the "fog" effect and try to make the figure pop out more since it's the focal point. An easy way to do it is to just lighten the area around in another layer then just lower opacity.

still, you cannot deny it's helpful, and soon it might as well understand to respect char designs like those shapes (atm you still can do that, but more prompt/edit effort)

still, far less work and skill req than drawing, or funds to pay such a mentor

Believe me there's plenty of photo-textures in this piece, but it's true I did use AI to post-process and manipulate them. (If there's one thing I've learned from experimentation it's that working with pure AI imagery will usually give you crap results).

I'm disinclined to worry about making the text ultra-legible because I'm planning to do some post-processing to the image that will probably make it a waste of time. Of course, I'll have to see how it looks and make a decision at that point.

I am aware of the coke can and it will be fixed, it just slipped my mind when I exported this image, probably because it was 1:30 in the morning.

Not too bad actually seeing you've put some decent work into it. Not nitpicking the details themselves but the use of AI to skip hand-polishing the environmental art. I reckon AI can have its uses but I would still recc painting over photobash because it's good exercise. The linework I see on your figures so far would look great for environmental art.

Honestly, if I wanted to get a painted effect I'd have done it the old-fashioned way, but I've been experimenting with "photorealistic" textures and simulated camera effects lately, because I'm interested in the effects I can achieve only with digital media.

DESU, I'll probably go back to traditional art after this for a while. This technique is far too intellectual and tedious. It's not much fun, honestly, but it might be useful knowledge for matte paintings and that kind of work.

Holy shit, that pic is tight.
Also don't wanna seem knee-jerk on the AI topic lmao, that original pic you posted has me reconsidering learning photobash+AI just as a extra tool for specific use cases. I'm sorry bro but you need to trash the background. I can't even tell what anything is in the background. I thought those leaves on his left were enemy corpses. Try making a forest again on a black canvas. Look for a reference. If you live near a forest go take some photos at an angle that matches your picture and use those as a reference.

The comfy part of the first image is the curling fog and dark forest looming. I think making a clear space of fog around him and showing the light off his arm illuminating the darkness would help focus and draw the eye. (Ignore how it clumps above his head instead of behind his back)

you're drawing detail instead of blocking out planes and shapes which should've been your first step.
no matter how much time you put into drawing individual eyelashes, if the eye isn't exactly where it should be it will always look wrong.
also you're clearly focusing on the things that seem most "important" to you like eyes and facial features etc when you should always be looking at the picture as a whole. this stops being an issue when you manage to abstract the whole thing in your mind into shapes like rectangles and squares etc so nothing takes priority over the larger picture
here's a very quick "red line" but i'm mostly just telling you to block out your planes first.

Eyo this kinda kicks ass, strong Junji Ito vibes on the face. Pretty damn good if you're only just getting into life studies, keep it up.
Expanding on what the other anons said: breaking it up into gesture, construction, sketch, and shading will help you with your proportions and feeling ze form. You can also tweak the proportions at each stage.
Work big to small and draw what you see, not what you think.

Oh fuck me, man... I spent so long trying to get her lips and her back bones right and you seemed to barely have tried it and still got them perfectly. So this is the power of experience and fundies then huh?

I don't know if this makes sense, but the reason I didn't draw what I saw was because I just didn't knew *how*. I had no idea where/how to shade her back bones. I had no idea how to accurately draw the hair strains on the forehead in a way that looked good. Which brush? Which opacity? etc.... That's why I ended up doing things differently. I did the best I could with what I know, experimented with what I didn't. It is only after seeing your drawing that it all clicked. I guess I should focus more on studying other artists to broaden my horizons...

Take your time, slow is steady and steady is fast in the long run. If you're struggling with lips/backs do a bunch of studies of specifically lips/backs. Efficiency/speed comes naturally once you've drawn them a bunch and start to "get" the forms. This applies to anything that's got you scratching your head.
A good exercise to hammer home "draw what you see" is flipping your reference upside down and drawing it like that. The results will be extremely wonky but the process is the important part, it helps rewire your brain. Squinting your eyes also helps for picking out the basic shapes of shadows, as well as sticking to 3-4 tones.
Def stick with hardround brushes for now, using a hardround with size pressure is great for block shading because you don't have to fuck around with the brush size while drawing. If you don't have a pressure tablet just work with a small hardround and use the lasso/fill tool for blocking. You'll know when you're ready for fancy soft brushes, but plenty of pros stick with the hardround through their whole career.

If you're looking for a balanced diet of study I'd recommend the following in equal measure:
>Quick 30-60-120 second gestures (develops speed/fluidity)
>Careful copying of anatomy/mechanical diagrams (develops accuracy/linework)
>Life studies (develops form/function, also ties into making OG art w/ reference)
>Artist studies (develops style/technique)
>Doodling w/o reference (develops imagination/passion)
Again, for any of these exercises it also helps to specifically focus on gesture, construction, linework, or shading.
It sounds like you're already thinking about the right things and have the right attitude to make solid gains. Godspeed.

Thanks. I tried another version after that one. But this time I tried a more "clean" look, to come closer to a manga style. Hated my shading here though. Didn't even try shading the back

Nta but just make the outer calf portion curved amd keep the straight in the inner (one towards the other leg). Straoght lknes are cool but use them selectively otherwise ots pointless and looks bad. experiment.

You've got a dope style and studying anatomy/construction will only develop it. Balance reference studies with drawing from memory/imagination to maintain your sovl.
Might not be exactly what you're going for, but in the vein of stylised anatomy here's some good legs from Robert Valley. Generally thighs have a flat back and curved front, calves have a flat front and curved back. Gives the legs more rhythm when they're shaped like a big S, in fact the whole body is made of opposing curves like this.

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely hit the books, where would recommend i start? Just use some PNGs or should I get a book for that?

This next drawing probably features the same issues but maybe there are are other aspects I jacked up?

I feel like this is messy? Like the perspective is wrong and things aren’t lining up. Does this need a redraw in accordance to these reference lines I’ve set up or am I tweaking?
