wow people really do just post every single thing that is the opposite of the truth.

if art is painful for you, you're doing it wrong. Its not about the greatness of your sacrifice, that's a publicity stunt. True greatness is measured by just how little it costs you to make something beautiful. Graceful, effortless charm, that's what makes you a master - and it also happens to be incredibly fun!

The expressive range of your art depends on how high your ceiling is, and if you're not constantly smashing your head against it it will never get higher.
If you're having a mild and pleasant experience you're not getting out of your comfort zone.

and when was the last time "getting out of your comfort zone" ever taught you anything useful? and I mean intentionally doing something uncomfortable like you didn't want to do it, not merely different than usual..

Going outside comfort zone sounds good on paper, but it just wastes effort in practice. You should always try to stay in your range, so that you aways succeed.

Believe it or not, you really don't need to be trying to make things harder for yourself. Adopt a different mindset: Instead of pretending you can draw things beyond your limitations, embrace your limitations and work within them. Try to build your drawings exclusively out of the things you already know how to do. trust me it just works, and you will learn MORE, not less.

>You should always try to stay in your range, so that you aways succeed
I don't care about succeeding in the disabled children's race, I want to have complete control over the shapes I draw, and to do that I have to overcome my limits.
>you really don't need to be trying to make things harder for yourself
All my best drawings were made by doing that.

are you uncomfortable with going outside, so much so you have to force yourself? or do you in perfect comfort with the idea desire to go outside sometimes.

>>7194399
you will never have control over shapes outside your comfort zone, because obviously only the shapes inside your range that you have good control over. In other words you can right now to a limited extent already have awesome control, if you built your drawings out of things you already understood well. Can't you see there might be value in practicing that?

I will.
>obviously only the shapes inside your range that you have good control over
I wasn't born with the skills I have today. I learned by drawing things beyond my abilities and flopping multiple times.

I sketched this and I was on my way to try something else, then I dimmed down the background a bit harder than I was planning to and suddenly her eyes were way too bright. Realized that this is how people do all of those glowing eye pictures, i liked my little discovery.

This. The hardest part about art is finding something you really really want to make. My best works in any medium come from autistic obsession with something and sitting my ass down for hours at a time without noticing and finishing in one go, all while in this trance. And it is fun.
