Thanks anons, I'll go research Construction right away. While I didn't trace, I did erase and redraw most lines many times until I felt they were similar enough to the original, and used paint to take rough proportion measurements. I continued some of the out-of-sight lines digitally too to aid myself in places where the drawing and original were not similar. I hardly think that counts as "construction" though.

Is it worthwhile to try to reconstruct the basic shapes digitally over the original drawing first before attempting to replicate it on paper? Or would that also just be tracing with extra steps?

for whom? different things appeal to different people. if you want to impress the most amount of people, i.e. normies, look at what they consume and copy it; though this really applies with whatever audience you're trying to appeal to. nevertheless, if you yourself don't understand what is appealing to an audience, and you're asking others for that info, you're merely taking their word for it. if you want to actually know what appeals to different people and how to make your art appeal to them, you need to get good, frankly.

Construction uses the skills practiced to make a complete figure drawing. Spheres for the head, cylinders in perspective, etc. It's just like the video you posted.
Those boxes and cylinders you've been drawing? They make up the hands and skull that came later.
Bowls andteacups? Made up of the sliced spheres and cylinders before them.
Boxes in perspective and rotating? Useful to plan out perspective, how the body bends, etc
What's missing? How to measure (your vertical lines are part of it), general proportions of the body and head, quick gestures for sketching poses and whatever else is needed for the situation

Yeah that was the goal. Glad enough of that came through to give the impression it was what I was going for.

Yeah, the camera is technically a person, but more like a ghost. You can put it anywhere, but you the rule is "what are you trying to show."
the camera shot youre using is emphasizing her strength with with her build, a lower camera angle would emphasiz her stature and overall height. You can do that with another art piece.
Youre not autistic, this is another skill artist need to learn, youre just waking up to it.

Paths I've made for myself with landmarks that I remember. It personalized. Many people do the same, and they may use the same landmark, but ultimately, they use their own crude system. Its personalized

You're going to have to do some anatomy study and pick out what you know. However, this analogy falls short because you're still going to have everyone point out where you did wrong since what you ignored can bite you in your ass if it just looks ugly.

I do not need art philosophy telling me 'just draw with your mind!' and act like this is not a problem. Right now it looks like the brush is about a tenth of the actual size.

>(It's been forever since I used CSP since i switched to ipad but i should remember everything. )

use the following pressure curve: https://files.catbox.moe/6lrc0c.jpeg
it is best curve for sketching imo, i got it from googling "professional artist pressure curves" and most japs use this too.

YOUR PRESSURE CURVES from left to right:
1) sloped up like that is how i did it for a long time, but you are going to work harder than need be, plus the end result doesn't look as good. see pic related, i did the entire picture using that setting. I would honestly just not use the built in "draw freely on the canvas with the pen" because it affects all brushes and can lead to you not understanding why a certain tool is doing what its doing.

2 + 3 I don't understand so i wont comment.

NEXT CSP is fatal with having some dumb setting enabled but here's my opinion on which to turn off/on: (btw in general the less settings enabled on a brush, the better because the CPU doesn't have to work so hard)

HARD ROUND with linked above pressure curve (pressure 0% tilt min100-150max i never messed with the tilt default but you do you)

OPACITY 100% (can be less like 90% but i prefer solid strokes and just fuck with the layer opacity instead if i want it lighter.)

"Correct velocity input" does not need to be enabled unless you have velocity enabled for the brush. this is found between tilt and random.
"adjust by speed" in general can be off if you have stabilization on, just more factors to deal with imo. just adjust the stabilization option (even to 100% if you are doing a vector like curve)

"blend brush tips with darken" doesn't hurt but i cant recall if i used it.
Doesn't come into super play for me since i dont like lower then 100% brushes.
"brush density" and "adjust density by gap" under brush tip doesn't need to be on unless you want alterations in opacity but again some people like it, i don't.

Still, pretty happy and gonna try to do more out there angles and add some features next.

Tracing on its own will probably not help you. However I find that drawing construction and the most important line on top of a piece and then trying to redo it yourself can really help.

I think yours looks much better than mine did, but I'm gonna echo the advice I was told. Try to work on your lines. I generally like the more scribbly look, but it looks less like a deliberate choice and more like not quite getting the correct lines, especially around the mouth and jaw area.

when you really don't want to draw, just do something else for a bit, but keep drawing in the back of your mind someplace. if it doesn't pull you by the end of the day, just do some before bed doodles to log a little practice and leave it there, do them traditional if the tablet is too much hassle.
we don't have to be machines to become better artists. and in fact, trying to make yourself one will just burn you out and cause you to lose passion for making art at all. take a few hours or a day off, it won't suddenly put you back at day one
everyone here could probably stand to remember that more

Use general landmarks.
Take only the torso length (clavicle to crotch)
Divide by half to get the bottom of ribcage.
Divide bottom half by 3rds to get top of hips so you know where to draw panty line.
Some tips:
Learn anatomical landmarks and the ratio of the body.
Figure out how Contrapposto affects the heights and then apply to more examples.
She is bending forward a bit so theoretically you should be drawing her top portion slightly bigger than her bottom because of perspective etc

Thanks man! To be honest I wouldn't know what to answer. You're doing pretty good, I don't think that I could "teach" anything to someone like you. But I could say that unchaining your "coomer inner-self" would allow to mentally go there. Art expression is a mind thing/game. If you're already good as you are, with a solid sense of structure and anatomy, then whatever crazy shit your random lines and ideas take you, you will find the "possible" visual solution to that crazy pose. You know, like in those "Character creator" engines from games, you max out everything but the game does it within some rational and constant parameters, so the resulting figure "works". You will get there as well, whatever crazy gesture you throw at the paper you will build a shape that will "match it somehow". But you need the "mental drive", it is like overclocking a processor, you know, coom shit usually does that. You don't have to post that, or show that, but it works.
About those figures that I do, for some reason that works better without reference, that cartoony bullshit I do it with out any reference so it's just crazy shit, the figure it's not limited or "contaminated" by "logic and rationality" lol. So it can go anywhere.
If I follow a reference like I did over you pic there, my figures start to get much more limited and "real". I was thinking about doing a "no ref - no rational" version of those same poses but, I'm kinda tired lmao. I said that, but I'm gonna keep drawing some other bullshit lol.
Good luck anon, have fun and happy drawings.

Yes, Behind the dune, by Balsamique big fan. Also you can find Roninsong's style too. It's all about personal fun, so I put things that I want to see. There on picrel, that's an exploration thing that I can do super fast, that's why it looks simple and cartoony, people here hate that, lol. But I don't do it for "likes". Just as every anon here posting stuff that they know is just grinding material, I'm trying to find shapes, poses, something that I would like, but I wouldn't know till I do it, and the only way to do that is to try stuff. We are our own "AI". I have my own mental "prompts", I like exposed defined torsos, I like big tits, skinny arms, nice legs, with a style resembling Roninsong, Balsamique, and some others as well. Now, There are real reference like solomia_maievska, or Kay Parker, women that have that type of body, so I can check on them, and when you have so many specific details of what you like, then, an actual image reference is not necessary, because it doesn't exist the reference of what you are trying to do. It's a fun exercise. I have the ingredients, I make the mix wich is the fun part, and let's see what happens lol.
So, it will happen to you as well, you will want to do stuff with no ref because you will be free to do whatever you want. That could become a problem though, you could get lost on bizarro land and never come back xD

You wouldn't know till you try it. The main problem that I see, is that everyone approaches the thing from a "guro" perspective, wich is wrong, and totally unnecessary. I could make a quick comic around that theme, and it would have nothing related to guro at all. And it could be sexy as fuck. But yeah, the unnecessary guro approach is the problem.
>>7182287
>it's rooted in extreme dominance/submission stuff that's usually coming from a very creepy misogynistic place
But you could say that about the whole concept of sexuality as well. SEX is all about "dominance/submission". And yes bondage fetish and the like are "extreme" boosters of that "dominance/submission" concept. That's what bondage is, that's what people tying themselves and using handcuffs and all that bullshit is about. The problem is that childish mentality unable to discern what an adult fantasy game is, and that NOT EVERYTHING must be "Rated G". That's the new standard nowadays. Everything must be R-G, if a movie is Rated-R today it makes the news. We lost the capacity to enjoy things, because BIG BROTHER says so. Big Bro wants you to buy and see ONE standardized product.Wich is sick. Adult things and games are adult things and games. Enjoying the new Dota Patch, but now it is art time. Tried to do a more isometric/angled perspective. Might have exaggerated some parts or got some things wrong, but I think it looks cool and that makes me happy for now. Would love some advice though.

>>7182415
I really shouldn't be talking due to my the pic I posted here, but I think boxes are a good exercise to build this muscle. However, try finding photos or artwork you like and try drawing boxes over the shapes that you see. This is tricky because you do need a frame of reference, but I believe just trying to get a feel for 3D objects in 3D space can help. I also highly recommend "Perspective Made Easy" as it distills all the fundamentals of perspective in a very quick manner. Good reminder for myself to look over that book again. With that book I used to do quick thumbnail sketches of "city streets" where I'd place a horizon line and place cubes and geometric shapes down the street to practice vanishing points etc.

>>7182381
Two things stand out: Avoid using airbrush when you're fully rendering out an artwork because it can give your artwork a very distinct "unappealing digital" look to it. Mix in hard edges to convey forms. The other thing is introducing hue-shifting to shadows and highlights. Take your base color and make it warmer for shadows or colder for highlights -- or do the inverse! I did this too as a beginner, but try to also avoid the universal "airbrush shadows" on each of a subject's form. It's a safety net for rendering that often looks off. Use a reference and see what parts of the body are capturing light and which are capturing shadows. That shoulder would more than likely have highlights. I also get the feeling of symbol drawing with the eyes and nose. Feels less like a face with 3D form and more like 2D features pasted onto a plane. Study planes of the face and see where light and shadows form on the face.

I don't want to derail this into kink-shaming, but I have to agree with the anon who's uncomfortable by it. Bondage/Dom/Sub kinks heavily rely on the Submissive having complete control of the situation with their Dom respecting that, despite what might be seen on the surface.

Amputee fetishism could fall into this category but majority of the content made for it contradicts this. It's much harder for the sub to be granted control of a situation if they are physically unable to resist or escape a situation, especially in hyper amputee scenarios. With normal kinky bondage, a Dom is restraining a Sub because that's what the Sub wants and is excited by. With amputee fetishism it often feels like the Sub being an amputee is more exciting for the Dom than it is for the Sub.

Could there be a gentler more trust based side for Amputee fetishism? Absolutely. But it feels like majority of the people who have this kink just have a fixation of a woman being extremely vulnerable and reliant on them.

But anon, you could be the difference. Start making some wholesome amputee art and tip that community on its axis.

Appreciate the feedback!
>this has the issue many mangas have: cluttered unreadable composition.
This was a hard truth to accept, because I spent a good bit of time on the composition, but where things fell apart was applying the values. I did a value comp specifically to address the problem of values blending together. It was supposed to be dark thot/light dragon/dark ceiling/darker columns. Where it fell apart (and I could sense it fell apart, but not why until I read this critique) was that I didn't consider the local value of the objects in planning. So when I tried to make the locally light thot in heavy shadow and the locally dark dragon in high-key light, I ended up with values that were too close together. (I also think the dry brushing in the background ended up busier than I intended, too). One question about
>make outline of dragon MASSIVE, etc.
Do you mean literally beef up the outline, or do you mean make the silhouette of the dragon bigger?
>It is very cool otherwise
Glad you liked it!

To the things this anon recommended >>7182463
wich I think it is too advanced yet.. I would start with very simple things like the shoulder in front of her face, same with the hair. The shoulder should be in front of her chin (in this case). I see what you're doing, you want the face and hair to be the visible thing, but it is self defeating to bent reality like that. Don't worry, the viewer's brain knows what's behind, sometimes our brain even construct a beautiful thing that it isn't there, so don't worry, let the viewer brain do the heavy lifting, you don't have to draw absolutely everything, be pragmatic. And second you should use the lines of the dress not just to "represent a dress floating in the air" but you can build a whole figure with those simple lines. Don't be afraid to build her figure first, and then add some FEW wrinkles here and there, preferably in the breaking lines, in the bends of the shape. That's enough to tell the eye that that's a fabric material on top of a skin surface.
About the rest, I wasn't going to do any coloring/render, because I wanted you to see the lines, you should focus on the linework. BUT, I saw that you were using a very dark skin color and that's hard to work with, so I tried to do a simple render system to tackle that skin color, I hope it helps. It's just a simple round soft brush (at low opacity in the color layer), just some little glows here and there with three warm colors does the trick. I didn't went too far, because, again I think you have enough work already improving the basic construction lines and some logic composition elements. Keep up the good work anon.

It cannot be anything that makes its hard, or basically impossible, as you don't want to know whether you could. Anon... Nothing in that design says "military" or "dystopia". It's just nothing.
If you are planning on making characters wear the same military uniform, add insignias, add patches, some variations between units, anything that points to difference in ranks. Soldiers don't wear literally the exact same thing.
Also actually put effort into drawing varied faces. It honestly looks like you can draw, but you are just lazy and think that it's "good enough". Look into experimenting with different body types.
Take a look at Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Almost all characters are wearing just simple military uniforms, but there are gorillion variations of uniforms.
Or Attack on Titan - all characters wear the same exact uniform, but all have different body types, heights and faces and are easily distinguishable.

it's flat because I intentionally drew it without any perspective, shading or folds because I was just trying to get across the essential features. obviously when I draw the actual comic the characters aren't just going to be unshaded stiffly A-posing, it's a fucking design sketch. it's not finished and I'm actively iterating on it but all anyone here seems to be able to say is

I wasn't talking about that, though maybe I that's my ESL shining through. Your design has the shoulder pads, something on the chest, and boots. Between the chest and the boots there's absolutely nothing. Just a giant void. Obviously don't just jam it full of detail, but give the viewer something, anything.
The other one has the straps going down the body as well as knee pads and a belt along the waist. It keeps the area from feeling boring while also not being noisy.
Don't get me wrong, I probably couldn't do it better, but I hope noticing these things is a sign that I will at some point.
>I intentionally drew it without ... folds
Looking at>>7182944, that's just wrong. They are kept to a minimum, but your style itself is minimal so I feel these count as folds.

picrel is still unfinished but it's closer to the level of detail I'd have in the final version.
I'm not really sure what I could add to make the leg area more visually interesting and personally I don't feel like it needs to be, the head and chest area are typically where you want the reader to be looking anyway.
idk maybe something like a seam going down the side to help indicate what angle you're looking at it from like the shoulder pads do? I feel like adding a belt would give it a completely different vibe than what I'm going for.

Obviously the shading helps, but the kneepads are also much better I feel, given the fact I actually didn't even notice them before.
>idk maybe something like a seam going down the side
Try it out and see if it helps. And if you are still not convinced you can just keep doing your way.

the problem with this approach is that no matter how cool your giant robots look, no one is going to care about them unless they also care about the little pilot in their little jump suit with their little life. which means building expressive bodies to shape that boring jumpsuit around and knowing where on the body to put the details that make it a little less boring
also, mecha (well, most of them) are kind of just big slow moving distorted human figures, so a lot of the same skills transfer in making your robots cooler

I have been trying to readjust the colors of the layers while readjusting my correction layers. I also realized one of my layers (The one with the green tint) was supposed to be set to add. The green is supposed to be the lighting, the red is supposed to be the shading, and blue is the overall hue. I am trying to play around with layer settings and see what I can get before I work on my current commission list.

I do have a question. Actually, a couple:

What paint program do you use? I use clip studio paint.

What layer settings do you use for your shading (if any)?

Thank you in advanced.

Thanks.

I think what I should have told you about is the ball itself. I call it a shading sampler. It a practice/experimental piece where I try different shading techniques with various color theory on a gray ball. for the one I asked for feedback on has the goal of achieving shading based on triatic colors. Its based on my previous method of shading that I recorded.

My apologies.
