Should I attend life drawing, or is drawing from photos just as good?

draw from photos until you are good enough, then go to life drawing. Life drawing has many drawbacks, the lighting might suck, you might not be comfortable , maybe there is noise distracting you, maybe you dont have enough time , it costs money etc.

With photos you can take your time to draw. But try to pick good photos where there is a visible shadow/light boundary

if life drawing is so disadvantageous, why ever graduate photos? Why ever take the transition towards life drawing?

It's not as good, you're better off replacing life drawing with hyper realistic 3D models.
Even that is not as good but it's better than photos.

>3D models.
I've never seen a good realistic 3d model of a human being, unless you're talking about high res scans of famous sculptures

You need to go to life drawing. If you're copying from a flat, a good master copy is going to be better than a photograph.

real life colors (seen with your eyes) look different than in photos and cameras. Even with high quality photos you will not be able to get some colors that exist in real life. Best way to notice this is when you try to take photos of a sunset or other phenomena where the sky is illuminated in a subtle way. It's almost impossible to replicate that unless you've seen it with your eyes multiple times.

As I understand it this is just a limitation of the cameras dynamic range, a nude figure is going to be relatively low contrast

Drawing from photos is harder to learn from because theres no parrallax (3d) for your eyes to read. I'll tell you what i did, you can laugh but i think it helped as much as drawing from life. I have a pair of red and blue lens 3d glasses, i searched online for anaglyph references and drew from them while wearing the glasses. If you can find a way to view 3d images theres no difference between drawing from that and life. A pair of 3d glasses is a lot cheaper than life drawing
