This drawing is not technically bad. There are no huge anatomical flaws, no perspective mistakes, the composition works and is relatively readable. But at the same time, this drawing makes me feel utterly nothing. It is not beautiful, it is not especially cool, sexy or cute. I often see pieces that, while they do not appeal to me personally, I can imagine why someone would care about them, but I cannot imagine a person, who would genuinely like this specific drawing.

the fastest/best way to do that is to just copy, there's no reason to reinvent the wheel.

Oh, I'm doing drawabox right now, at the plotted perspective step. I'm oddly hype to get to the 250 boxes part, too. Somehow I'm not even all that embarrassed about drawing the 50% rule child like crap doodles because I know it's all towards a greater goal.

I stopped at the 250 boxes challenge like pretty much everyone else.

I don't think the challenge's difficulty is the sole reason people stop, I think people just realize putting in this much effort isn't worth it when the course teacher draws kinda dogshit.
It's weird because he really does know his shit well and is generally right... but his art just sucks.

I'd say its worth giving DrawABox a try because you'll probably learn some good things from it but goddamn the moment you start losing interest, dip the fuck out and pick up some different material.
I can't stress enough how important it is to capture appeal in art and this dude doesn't seem to know anything about appeal at all.

After something like DrawABox which is relatively academic and dry, I can reccomend "Keys To Drawing" by Bert Dodson or Mike Mattesi's "Force".
These are two books I know which specifically hone in on appeal and aesthetics. Force may require a bit of experience on how to draw human figures first, but with Keys to Drawing you can go in at any skill level.

Balancing something informational and scholarly with something creative and fun in my opinion is the best way to learn. I don't like to parrot the "right side and left side of the brain" meme but if you view your brain to be half knowledge and half creative direction, then you pretty much already know what to do from there.

But if you must, move to another course after the primitives and organic intersection exercises.

Pick based on what you want to draw, human figure? Try Hampton, Vilppu; cars, planes, sci-fi stuff, etc? Try Scott Robertson...
