you only need 6-8, anymore or less is gonna fuck ya up, imo. just get some caffeine in you, turn on some non-lyrical music and start. don't wait for some magical moment. don't turn on anything that will cause distraction. might help to do some stretches before starting though. I usually do just back and hands/arms, but legs might help too depending on how long you plan to sit and how you normally sit.

Good job anon. I can tell the effort that went into the hands and feet which look quite nice. I never draw quitars because I hate how complex it is to have this weirdly shaped object interacting with my character lol.

So, you should study drawing a consistant head in a bunch of angles, as I believe that is the most lacking part of the drawing. I want you to focus on placement and size of the parts of the face.

Also with the folds on the clothes, avoid having repetition in shapes like is seen on her arm, this very rarely happens. Doing some shape studies of clothes might be helpful. You can gather a couple images of clothing and look from the shapes that are made in the folds.

If you do that and study you'll improve pretty quickly. Good luck!

He does address them at the end of the book, actually. In short, drawing from life is ideal, drawing from photos is fine. Unless you ONLY draw from photos, then you aren't really training your brain to translate 3D shapes into 2D images, you're just copying 2D images.

pencil/pen and paper. do quick stroke, short lines until a whole page is full. turn the page over and repeat. do that until you have several pages done. once you have a feel for lines, practice curves as in the letter C and the letter S; in between you can do the letter I as well. C, S, and I are gonna be you main tools; try doing them at different angles too. after that start doing some basic shapes; squares, rectangles, triangles, circles, trapeze, ellipse (especially these), semicircles. got those? do more curves; big to small semicircles, wavy lines, waves, squiggly lines. im being very elementary because it's foundational and i have no idea what you've done up to now. otherwise just do stick figure gestures/poses for a few weeks.

there will be a time to come to do some tracing but not this early. yes tracing can help, but not yet. making your own stuff just comes with time and how does that come about? by practicing, from fundamentals and going from there. once you start getting into recognizing form you'll heading in the right direction and over a major hump on the path.
as for pencil holding, that i think depends. you usually don't want to hold the same way as if you're writing. for me, my thumb is close to the middle of the utensil and the nail pointing at the 'first line' of my index finger. my index is slightly arched and some distance from one i guess usually places it.
from what i seen others say is to have a very relaxed way of holding the utensil so that your sketching flows better. you're not drawing up schematics, blue prints and floor plans with a ruler. but find something feel comfy for you

i rather my arm be on the table than the arm of my chair. if you're tiring so soon it may be similar to weight lifting, endurance will come with time. but also try to make sure you're not holding the utensil too tightly. try loosening the grip a bit. try to keep your lines as straight as possible, don't worry about speed just yet either. it's fine to do 2-3 quick, 2-3 slower and repeat. eventually you'll find yourself doing 10+ in rapid succession, close and of the same length

Painting part is very weak actually. - Instead of precise control, it is just some blurry low definition. I tried to come up with the lecture but it turned into wordy mubojumbo. But basically it boils down to an ability to do this for arbitrary surface and light direction, and it depends on the understanding of the form of a thing. But it have a high bullshit tolerance.

Watch Marco Bucci(someone good at painting recommended him, so I guess it is a safe bet. Look at the pictures. Usual stuff :\

In CSP, is it possible to make selection groups for layers without having them in a folder?
For example, I'd like to mark all the "hair" layers and then select them all at once if I want to make changes, irrespective of their layer position.

I'm trying cell shading and trying to make corrections is super tedious since I have to manually select all the relevant layers.

Do I just have to group the different color layers directly with the corresponding lineart layers?

The hardest part is understanding the forms which could happen whenever depending on you but it gets you 90% there. It’s not a linear process. Observe things more in your everyday life, not just when drawing. That’s when the real gains will happen in terms of understanding because you can do it all day long.

So I did my first reference sheet (inb4 "This isn't a proper reference sheet", it's a rough and I only want to do the front and side view), which took me three days to do due to being distracted and the fact it was quite challenging for me to align, which I feel I was mostly successful with, save for one aspect...

I could do the hand in the front view just fine, but the side view where the hand is facing us, just looks awful. I am curious how I could improve the hand, if anyone has any idea please let me know. (I am not done with this yet, so I will make tweaks/changed still at this point).

And feel free to critique other aspects too, as long as you keep in mind it's meant to be stylized/cartoony/anime like so the anatomy will be "off", though rest assured I did look at actual human anatomy to try and get it to look somewhat anatomically correct.

For the neck something 3D modelers working in anime/cartoon style often do is make the neck thicker from the side than from the front because a thin neck looks weirder from the side than from the front. Apart from that she’s kind of top-heavy in the side view but I can’t tell if she’s supposed to have huge breasts or not since the rib cage is big. Personally I’d make it thinner and move the upper body more to the right for better balance.

>18 hours a day for 6 ish months
Not possible
Where the time for jobs, eating, shitting, reviving drawing lessons etc. The body need rest, nourishment and entertaintment.
4 - 6 hours a day is enough.

and why is it funny?
i know eye doesnt look at viewer, line art is non existant, proportions are fucked up and its overall bad. also i dont know how to make eyes count. a good solid criticism would help honestly. Also i dont know how to make my lines not scribbled and constant. >>7121680
