Alright so I may be delusional but I feel this is one of my better anatomy studies.

Mainly because I felt I got the width of her torso down nicely, and I feel I got the flow of her arms and legs down, even though the detail is a tad low and inconsistent.

Still can't do hands well.

No face because I wasn't really focusing on that so much.

I need to do more of these, I am trying to do at least one every day now.

day 2 of copying and memory drawing.

recently someone introduced me to this method of drawing, and this came out bad, but instead of bitching desu, I kinda had fun I laughed it off and just continued to draw.

On day 30 of copying and memory im probably going to include more drawings as these do take time, even though they look rushed.

Best case scenario. Thug that shit out and keep going.

I had/have the exact same problem which is that you understand 3D form theoretically but still haven’t learned how to *feel* it when looking at things. So start using your entire daily life to pay attention to all three dimensions around you and when you draw from life/photos and eventually it’ll click what he’s trying to explain to you. Vilppu also helps. Don’t give up, you just need to learn how to see in a new way which will happen if you don’t give up on trying new things.

I'd definitely recommend watching videos of good golf swings, and trying to draw some paused poses off to the side. Identify what makes a good golf swing good, and be sure to include it in your drawing.

Most of my corrections were based in the power needed for a good swing, meaning planted feet, and a swift follow through. [spoiler] I'll have to use a ref next time too lmao

Just so you know, the way you drew the arms, club and face is more indicative of a different shot type. Your figure hit a high draw, mine hit a lower and straighter shot. I think they're both valid, although yours certainly looks more dynamic.

Alright, I actually need advice with something.
So whenever I draw something, I try to find a reference photo with a similar pose and proportions to what I have in mind, but what do you do if you can't find a reference photo for the pose you want to draw?
Like if the angle is super extreme (super low/high POV), or the proportions you want to draw are so unrealistic that no reference photo has what you want?
Right now I try to draw it from imagination when that happens, and it ends up looking pretty mediocre because of it.

It’s hard to put into words since it’s like gaining an entire new sense, but once you see it you can’t unsee it.
What helped me was doing lots of figure drawing while doing all the following:
Try to be aware of all your body parts’ positioning in space at all times in your waking life (as much as possible), then try to expand that awareness beyond yourself in all directions. Imagine you’re the air wrapping around all objects from all directions around them.
If you look at a box or similar object, you can easily identify planes for the three dimensions from the faces of the box. Try to feel those planes expand to the rest of the space around you and pay attention to each dimension. What’s the relationship between different objects around you? You can move up/down, left/right, and forward/backward. Move along one dimension at a time (with your eyes) between objects to really feel which combination of dimensions separates them. Do this with body parts when drawing figures to see what direction they move in from one other.
Watch Vilppu videos to see how he feels the form while drawing and try doing a bunch of figure drawing doing the same thing. Try to feel around the body of the figure and draw the parts you can’t see by drawing lines that wrap around each body part like a wireframe.
From >>7101630 it seems like you can see value. Realize that value is just the result of how light moves through space and interacts with form. Try visualizing the path of that light and how the shape of the object affects how much light reaches different parts. Also pay attention to this in your everyday life and when drawing.
I’m also reading Force: Dynamic Life Drawing for Animators now and it has some exercises that might help, like imagining yourself being the size of an ant and flying on a plane around the model, who is gigantic compared to you. You travel over the body like it’s a landscape with hills and valleys. He talks about >>7101656 too.

Gesture is NOT a scam, it just isn't a fundamental or beg friendly skill. It's too nebulous and subtle to throw at someone who is still trying to learn the basics. If you're a beg, I don't think you should make gesture your primary focus.

>> No.7102334

>>7102324
It's starting with gesture that tends to start a lot of problems. Most people starting off drawing completely forego any observation skills and it seriously hurts them. It's not those books you mentioned are snakeoil. They teach what they do pretty well but they don't teach observation. So of course you're just hard filtered because you don't know how to compare the position of one coordinate relative to another.

Not to jump on the retard dogpile, but you really should reconsider referencing AI, or at least do it more carefully. In your reference image she's holding half a fucking book, and in your version she's holding a full book in the same way, as if there isn't any weight on the other side. AI images are still filled with these sorts of pitfalls, as well as more subtle mistakes and inconsistencies that are bound to pile up if they're your primary references. It might be more convenient to prompt any pose you want, but you're hurting yourself in the long run.

Anyway, foot studies before bed. They've always been a weak point of mine and I'm finally facing my fears.

So, what you've done where you took the girl's design, is good. But her pose/anatomy are always going to be fucked, and it will make learning those skills harder. Did another figure study, but I felt awful mentally today and just didn't feel up for doing much drawing.

Granted the size of my sketch is larger than the reference which could cause issues, though I think I did a fairly decent enough job keeping it accurate...except for the legs and feet. I am TERRIBLE at keeping the feet in the right position, my previous sketch also had issues with feet placement, so it seems I am absolutely hopeless when it comes to placing the weight of the feet.

I am getting kinda used to constructing limbs a certain way but still feel a bit uncoordinated at times. Anyway, I'll take a break from drawing for the rest of the day and then try again tomorrow, and maybe try doing studies based on frames from disney movies after I do another anatomy study...I appreciate critiques just I got annoyed the other day because I just find "symbol drawing" to be not a terribly helpful critique as it's too vague.

Grinding (mindless practice) doesn’t work at all. Art isn’t anything like an mmo, you need to use your brain to improve or you end up like Chris-chan. If you practice a lot while actually using your brain then maybe you can do it. Frogs AND piggies? You're looking at about 30,000,000 cubes, easy.

I know, I'm telling you to draw it

>> No.7103065

Measure out your proportions before drawing and make marks for where the feet should go before starting the legs instead of trying to go from top to bottom and hoping they end up in the right position. You can draw a line between the feet on your ref to see the correct angle and distance.

I'll try to do more during the day, just feel like I often can't apply what I learn in my studies to my own pics just yet.

You might unironically be autistic, and I mean that in the worst way possible.

>you learn it only by drawing SHITTON of figures. So thats what i am doing
No.
You learn by putting effort into studying and drawing figures. You are just pumping out gorillion zero effort scribbles. You don't even bother to copy figures properly. Check your stuff from year ago, your copies were orders of magnitude better. You actually got worse. Or rather got lazier.
Look at anons who actually try and draw figures ITT and then look at your figures. Just look at replies to these refs and tell me you are putting in as much work as they do.

>>7101501
Honestly, almost every single work ITT looks like they tried at least 10 times harder than you did.

After a first attempt that looked like utter shite, I redrew this. it turned out better than the original, but ultimately I ruined it because I can't for the life of me draw hands.

It varies from person to person, you'll have to just keep drawing to know.
Btw don't be so harsh on yourself, even though you're clearly /beg/ your drawing does have personality and a clear idea and vibe.

brother you're a human being, you can't expect yourself to work like a machine or a line of code, it just doesn't work like that
approach drawing like a human, stick to what works and what you enjoy, draw in accordance to your time and energy levels, etc
of course a certain level of discipline is needed but keep in mind that you're a human, a monke. It'll keep you from burning the fuck out.
