Anime is a characteristically oriental thing: endless refinement to a supposed ideal that everyone follows. So, preparing tea or having pot plants or a gravel yard has to become this huge deal of graceful whatever. Nothing new for thousands of years.

In Japanese websites aimed at rookie animators you'll find advice like "you can copy loomis-sensei book and get into the anime industry, later if you have time and interest you can learn anatomy and perspective properly on the job" they don't even require you to know the 12 principles of animation or to know drawing fundamentals because they have an apprenticeship system in their studios.

>> No.7083939

>>7083935
In case you guys don't understand what that Japanese artist is saying, it comes down to anatomy is a bonus for low detail art so optional but it's a must for realistic art unless you want to draw from observation only instead of construction.

I know that the anime industry are practically creative sweatshops but it still makes me sad that they have such a higher degree of basic art & illustration education while us burgers are left to fend for ourselves and scrounge up the educational materials on our own. The state of art education is a travesty, and so is our art culture. My high school art teacher was a nice guy and I liked him but he was just able to draw from reference to a passable degree, the poor bastard went to college and that's basically all he got for the money spent. I wish we were at a point where Loomis were taught in schools, instead of this state where being able to draw is almost like this mystic and esoteric art.

Perspective is fucked obviously, not knowing how to find a center line, naive construction. Typical nip with sloppy technique and unearned authority. You're hurting yourself by learning from improperly constructed images, because intuitive perspective is as important as technical perspective.

Since art is a 'doing thing' it's hard to teach. There is such a thing as good art instruction, but the reality is the student gets nowhere without years of drawing. That's why
>creative sweatshops
are the real reason the Japanese draw well (that and the vibrant manga/anime culture, even the 'amateur' doujinshi work is usually well-crafted). They simply draw, draw, draw.
In America the elite art schools are basically networking centers. If you want to draw all of the greatest instructors in history are available to you (Loomis, Bridgman, etc.). it's just a matter of putting in the work.
