Why you should not trust youtube shills:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VH1WEYF8rlA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Twy5Wo8m284

Do not read anything into pressure levels. 1024 is more than enough.
If you have any additional questions, ask them.
Remember to ignore all chinese shills.

Recommended tablets:

>Screenless:
Intuos 3, 4, 5, Pro, One by Wacom

>Display:
Small (10-11"): Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite
Medium (12-16"): Samsung Galaxy Tab S8/S9 Ultra, used iPad Pro 12.9"
Large (22"+): Cintiq 22HD, Cintiq Pro 27 - Make sure they have VESA standard mounting holes.

>Avoid:
>XP-Pen, Huion, Gaomon and every other Chinese brand making Wacom imitations
Poor build quality, pens with wavy lines, wobbly nibs, broken tilt, issues registering light pressure, terrible customer support, uncalibrated. All Chinese brands have the same problems. Check out the webm to understand how bad they are.
Do not be fooled by myths like "Chink companies are just as good as Wacom now" - they've been saying this for over 8 years, nothing has changed. Consider reading the amazon reviews, particularly the negative spectrum and you will find some very common themes.
Chinese companies have also been proven to shill on 4chan. You will see dozens upon dozens of posts in this thread by a chinese schizo shill, who will either be bitching about the OP, gaslighting as a Wacom fan, making pointless spam posts or giving terrible advice (like recommending Huion). Just ignore and report him.

>Microsoft Surface Pro
More optimized for palm rejection than good quality drawing. Wobbly lines when drawing slow and straight.

>Cintiq 13-16"
Completely outclassed by the Galaxy Tab Ultra & iPad

>Cintiq Pro 16, 24, 32
Overpriced, QC issues, loud fans, proprietary mount interface

>Lenovo
Worse than Samsung in every way.

reminder in every thread that right now in this moment and date you are ok buying any tablet-device of the top brands: apple, huion, samsung, wacom, xp-pen, in their screen and non screen options, and at least anything from 2018-19 to this day, since all of them already reach a peak point in tech and the differences are minimal, and because of that you only need to focus in the other points that are design, construction, accessories, and accessibility, not "in wich one you draw better" anymore.
My personal advice is focus on reviews and comments about the quality of the cables, yep.

This is because even the screens are already proven to last several years without scratches, that's why my comment about any model post 2018-2019 because starting from those i have knowledge of models with screens intact to this day (like the kamvas 16 normal, or almost any samsung screen even more far like 2014). So you need to consider cables because if your model last for many years, and the cable dont, you are gonna buy another cable so availability will be a new factor, that you maybe dont want to add. But yeah most of the modern models have great durability in construction of the device and connections

These brands wouldn't be popular or still in business if all they put out was worthless faulty garbage. drawing tablets are a mostly solved product, with newer iterations only adding mostly meaningless features that no one really gives a shit about.
The final hurdle is basically getting etched glass onto even the entry level shit and doing away with screen protectors.

the biggest differences between huion and previous gen xp pen are a longer nib, and screen protector instead of etched glass. color is also a bit oversaturated. there's nothing that will stop you from being able to produce art or that you won't forget about like 10 minutes after unboxing it.

Initial impression is very high, I haven't worked with a screen tablet since the really old bulky early wacom models years ago and I'm just super impressed. I haven't color calibrated it yet but out of the box it appears extremely close to my monitor, like if I hadn't heard of others calibrating theirs then right now I would not be able to tell theres a difference. Pen response seems good too after restarting to get the drivers working.

If the money is relevant to you just look for it used, entry level wacoms are quite numerous so you should be able to get the M version for that and they don't really break except get a few new nibs.

>> No.7089217

>>7088872
I have the 16 pro gen2. It uses the same tech for the pen as the 13 gen2. Works fine.
What's still lacking is drivers hover/pen down pan/zoom is wacom still exclusive afik.
The other thing that's lacking is tilt compensation from the driver so you're drawing exactly where the nib is. With xp-pen / huion you'll still draw upto 2 mm away at large tilt angles. This can potentially be fixed with opentabletdriver and the right plugins. Requires a lot of tinkering though.
What's also lacking is the standard pressure curve, the linear curve is not really linear, can easily be fixed in your drawing program though.

now i'm not saying your video is completely inadmissible, but it doesn't test a couple of things the original showed, namely:
- abrupt shift in tilt at some specific horizontal line
- using a ruler diagonally
on the other hand, in the original the abrupt change in pressure demo is questionable since the hand is jerked oddly. ideally it would need some sort of constant pressure jig to be valid

I am genuinely tempted at this point. Where I am it costs the same as a Cintiq 24.

It comes with it's own stand that doesn't cost $500 extra, it's fanless, and still runs cooler then the cintiq. The only issue is it sounds like it's on par with other display tablets when it comes to wobble, but I have no idea what that really looks like in practice.

I've loved using the ipad pro 12.9 but I just want something bigger and the file management is becoming more and more of an abomination to use.

I think the thing making me hesitate is that I've had a bad track record.

1. Monoprice 19 (Literally had screws rattling inside and was a buggy mess. Returned it)
2. Surface Pro 2 (Horrible pen drift, tiny screen, could cook an egg on it)
3. Surface Pro 4 (Serviceable but pen jitter was bad, eventually battery bloated and died)
4. iPad Pro 12.9 2017 (Genuinely has been fun to draw on, save for the size and Apple's stupid OS)

I've always preferred glossy slippery screens for that white board feel you mentioned
The whole paper texture meme feels terrible for me and I get the feeling that's what they offer by default now since it kills nibs faster so they can make a quick extra buck
I use a generic glossy iPad screen protector over my PC screen tablet at the moment which works great, but if I upgrade to a larger screen I'm not sure if there'll be anything similar for that size. The propriety drawing tablet screen protectors seem to all come with the rough texture too

It is designed for it though. The 360 galaxy books use the same wacom digitiser as their tablets which are great for drawing. It shits all over something like a surface for example in drawing performance. The only reason it's not more popular is because it's expensive as fuck and at its price point people are more comfortable spending on a cintiq since it's basically industry standard and safer, but if you already have the 360 it's a great laptop for art.

Thoughts on using precision mode regularly to always be drawing more closely to a 1to1 with reality? I've got a wacom intuos pro medium and a 24inch monitor but unless im zoomed in unnaturally close to what im drawing, i feel like im constantly straining my hand, mainly my fingers, drawing with tiny micro movements. And regardless of how i draw, elbow or fingers, it feels generally slippery and inaccurate. For folks with similar tablet/display ratios, is this something you think about at all or just get skilled at over time?

>> No.7104918

I just can't find any info on how many watts display tablets draw if using PC's power supply with passthrough. It's never mentioned on their specs, so why is it even an option on some tablets if they expect you to use power plugs as the default?

I've been trying to figure out if that bricked my old PC into a reboot loop before running it through passthrough before, perhaps it didn't have enough power then? I've done a lot of research on that topic trying to figure out what caused it but never found anything, are display tablets capable of causing that if not provided with enough power?
My build had a 500w PSU and PCpartpicker estimated the specs at 411w. Even after unplugging the tablet it wouldn't boot normally so it either broke it or something else was the cause, it just happened days after I started using my tablet is why I think it was that.

idk i just don't feel like i have the control that i'd like without adding additional strain to my hand or changing to a unintuitive workflow. I've been drawing with it for maybe a few weeks total, 40 hours maybe, and im able to write full paragraphs with decent accuracy and speed at a small print size, just what i've been testing for comfortability. I don't really think it's a problem of just "more practice" because I feel comfortable with it, i just don't feel as accurate as i'd like. Say trying to join a line to another line, like putting a half circle arched connecting two perpendicular lines, i can get a quick "close enough" or a slow "accurate" but with precision mode, or just zooming way in, i can always just quickly hit it dead-center without much thought much like i can on paper. But that feeling of icy inaccuracy just kinda plagues every line i make at all times just a little bit.

I'm left handed and I'm thinking about buying a Samsung Galaxy S9 or S8. Are there any issues or annoyances using it left handed? I currently have a Gaomon PD156 Pro and to use that left handed I have to flip it upside down, which is manageable, but isn't ideal. Settings menus are upside down, theres less options in pc display settings and I'm not sure if it also messes with the calibration a little or maybe that's just skill issue. But in general, left handed tablet use seems like a bit of a half-arsed afterthought, since only 10% of the population is left handed. Does the galaxy tab also dismiss lefties a little too? no, but I don't draw on my phone, it doesn't have a pen. I'm not the type of lefty who can't function in a right handed world, most of us learn to be semi ambidextrous. but my concern is that in general, software tends to treat lefties as an afterthought, so, for example, one of my concerns is that the galaxy tab software might be much better at recognising right hand placement, when holding the pen in the right hand, the side of the hand touching the screen would be to the right. the angle of the pen would be different to the left hand too which might affect tilt and alignment, and so on. I'm not bothered about layouts, it's software that concerns me. it's alright saying I'm sure it would be fine for a lefty, but ideally I need to hear from another lefty.

is it safe to use eyeglass wipes to clean my tablet?

>> No.7112395

>>7112378
Generally yes, but they are soaked in rubbing alcohol. And there's people who ruined laminated displays with it. Depending on the glue it might seep into the gap between the front glass and the case and eat at it.
But wipes aren't soaked so much that this might be an issue.

I haven't tried it but I stumbled upon an app called Super Display that essentially turns your tab or other device into a portable USB display and graphics tablet, so you could use your pc version of csp on it for free. id assume it would be laggy, but play store reviews say it's very minimal.

Galaxy Tab owners, could you do me a big favor? could you try drawing with your left hand to see if there's any difference in quality? things like: calibration, does the cursor align just the same? palm rejection, is it just as good? pen tilt, does it react the same being inversed? it's hard to find any real answers about this because I've yet to find anything online from an actual left handed persons perspective.

I tried it for a few minutes with a few different pens and there's no difference.
But honestly think about it, a tablet has to support full 360 degree screen rotation to work the same in landscape and portrait modes no matter which way you're holding it so by design the digitiser must also be input direction agnostic.

I think it depends on your intentions. if you're only doing illustration in Photoshop for example then I think you'd need a good cpu, large amount of ram, and a good SSD for fast file transfers. I could be wrong but I don't think you particularly need a beefy GPU for that, however if you were doing 3D work then a good GPU would be. either way a GPU with decent amount of vram would be good and with a good amount of ports, for your monitors and displays. with monitors I think the best type for color accuracy are IPS monitors. they have better colours but slower response times generally, so not the best for gaming, but it's minimal and nowadays you can get fast response ips monitors too if you're gonna be gaming too.

I've been using an iPad Pro 12.9 and while the pen responsivity and lack of parallax are great, the software is ass and I hate the small display size and inconvenience of always having to recharge batteries and send files back and forth so I'm looking to make the switch to a PC native tablet

I'm now looking into Wacom and I'm not sure if I should get an Intuos Pro M (I've used screenless tablets on PC before and liked them) or save up for a Cintiq 22, I'm not sure if the bulky size will bother me, or the parallax, or the bad display colors, etc meanwhile I already have a good and color accurate monitor that I think would pair nicely with the Intuos, any thoughts?

>> No.7115362

>>7115299
id say first off try that super display app to turn your ipad into a tablet, that way you could possibly get the best of both worlds, by having a good screen that doesn't have to be charged (cos it would be connected via usb to the pc) and you wouldn't have to do file sendings. I haven't tried the app but for the solutions it could potentially provide it looks pretty interesting and it would be a lot cheaper than buying a new graphics tablet. if it doesn't work out then I'd probably suggest going for the bigger screen unless you have small desk space.

Procreate is crap dude.
-layer limit
-perspective and symmetry grids are trash and have far fewer features
-fill tool is ass, and can only reference one layer
-moving things outside the canvas deletes them
-no vector layers
-no magic wand selection
-the selection tool sucks in general, pretty sure you can't select multiple layers

It's bad. I have no explanation for its popularity other than casuals or people that have never used a different art app

>>7115299
Probably Intuos Pro M if you really are used to screenless tablets. Cintiq 22 seems like a ripoff IMO. You're paying $1200 for a 1080p screen. I feel like with wacom displays you really need to go big (cintiq pro) or go home. I will say this, I use both an ipad air 5 (so smaller than your ipad pro) and a cintiq pro 24 which I bought afterwards, and the bulkiness of the pro 24 bothers me much less than the small size of the ipad. Only you can answer for your preferences, ofc. But that's been my experience.

I see plenty of good art being made with Procreate. I think another big factor in its popularity is that its a one-time $10 purchase and not subscriptionware garbo.

Late as hell but used Tab S6 Lite and now S7 small and have experienced no issues due to being a lefty. Clip Studio Paint lets you move your workspace around to suit being a freak and I'm sure other apps do too. Overall great standalone; I love the pen, and at least it's not an iPad so I can use ADB tools to force uninstall nonsense bloatware

I've had two huion's and a cintiq so far;
Both huion's performed just as well as the cintiq when the cintiq decided to work. I've had to uninstall and reinstall cintiq drivers about every other week because pressure settings would just break randomly across all art programs.
Huions just werked (tm) after initial installation. No wobble, no broken nibs, straight lines, and at most a third of the price of the wacom alternatives because I got them on sale. That's just the two I've gotten, though, so I might just be lucky.
I do miss the eraser nip that Wacom has, for what it's worth.
