Looking for that blog post on how to start drawing.
It's on an artist's personal website and the name of the website is his first and last name IIRC.
The background is white and on the top there's a black and white drawing of a landscape, possibly a rural scene.

Thank you very much in advance.

Draw the shittiest body imaginable. Right now. Make it purposefully shitty. Ignore your internal dialogue sperging at you that the lines look too short or that you're ngmi when the sketch isn't even finished
Then look at it again. You can see the mistakes, so focus on one of them and draw another body. It will look less shitty. Keep going until you have a turd that looks polished enough.
Eventually you'll get in a flow and the voice will stop. And you'll get better. Stop taking art so seriously. It's just shapes and lines.

Drop Keys to Drawing, its unironically a fucking beg trap.
You wanna git gud?
Practice drawing straight lines, curved lines, ovals and circles.
Learn basic perspective (2 point and 3 point), then practice drawing basic shapes like boxes and cylinders (the two most important), cones and pyramids.
Move on to complex shapes and rendering (learn how light works)
Congrats nigga, you can pretty much draw anything now. But you gotta put in the effort.
Use reference. Try to draw the reference. How? Break down complex shapes into simple shapes.
You wanna draw faces? Learn head construction, I recommend the Loomis method

it's not, it's a necessary skill. it'll teach you to see angles/values/whatever better, and that's invaluable. people recommend drawing from life because it helps train those skills much more, and gives you a better understanding of the subject at the end, plus you've got something that's not a still image and that's funny on the brain
you don't need to draw from life to learn to draw, sure, but you still gotta do construction/anatomy/breakdowns with or without it. mindlessly connecting angles and dots won't teach you that unless you're thinking about it directly

what were you trying with the weird V on the inside of the elbow/upper forearm?
I feel you stylising the face messed it up: the eyes look weird especially for a tilt like that (see ear and nose), and the tooth is sticking out almost in the middle of her mouth; if that's supposed to be a canine, you gotta move it further into the corner

lower body feels flat and has no form. her dress is not deformed at all from her sitting on it, yet she's got her hand and legs on the ground which implies a ground plane and not floating in midair

the area where the foot connects to the leg does not look like an ankle here, it feels like her ankles are broken and feet rotated/pushed way back, like there's no achilles tendon

i also think the very thick line isn't doing you favours here, most of all on the face, but that's not that big of a deal eh

picrel is only half of a meme. most? all? good artists of unrealistic/stylised art can do at least decent realistic art, because stylisation requires that you know what you're stylising. you gotta know your anatomy at least a little bit before you try to simplify it.

Here's the reference I used. I really only glanced at it, hoping to follow the basic pose not make a one to one. But I definitely wasn't careful enough like you explain.
>why's her pinkie finger as long as her ring and middle fingers anon
You're right, I didn't notice how off it looked while drawing.
>what were you trying with the weird V on the inside of the elbow/upper forearm?
I think that was just a stand-in line to show where the bend would be, doesn't look very good how I did it I concur.
>I feel you stylising the face messed it up: the eyes look weird especially for a tilt like that (see ear and nose)
I don't see what you mean here. Could you elaborate or draw over it?
>the tooth is sticking out almost in the middle of her mouth; if that's supposed to be a canine, you gotta move it further into the corner
That makes sense.
>lower body feels flat and has no form.
That's probably from the large area of flat color with no shading. I should've done some basic celshading, but felt it was good enough as is at the time. I'm looking to do more next time.
>her dress is not deformed at all from her sitting on it, yet she's got her hand and legs on the ground which implies a ground plane and not floating in midair
This also makes sense, I know very little about drawing fabric around form, something else I need to do.
>the area where the foot connects to the leg does not look like an ankle here, it feels like her ankles are broken and feet rotated/pushed way back, like there's no achilles tendon
The feet were the only part I heavily referenced, so I disagree that it is not anatomically correct.
>i also think the very thick line isn't doing you favours here, most of all on the face, but that's not that big of a deal eh
I got over excited when drawing the thickness of the lineart, can agree.

Thank you for the response, I appreciate the critique

it takes a bit of setting up to do a good 2 point perspective frame if you wanna do it anally right (angle measurements for the field of view, Olson talks about that if you've seen the course), but yeah any object can have its own vanishing points that all go Somewhere on the horizon

The side view is more egg-shaped than ball-shaped
And right now you're just observing a skull and putting lines down in a hope that it resembles.
I suggest you learn actual construction of the skull, so you can more easily rotate it in space, and actually know what you're drawing. That being said, skulls are actually kinda hard to draw. There's a lot of perspective involved.
Otherwise keep it up, anon

Practicing figure drawings

Is there anything else I can do to practice front view?

I haven't drawn a female figure yet so I'll try that next, but I kind of want to get some more variety with drawing figures.

I don't want to get into poses too quick, or at least don't get into too crazy of a pose. Any advice on what I should do?

Ear is too far forward on the head

The eye looks like an eye from the front view, not an eye from the side view.

The neck is too thin, it needs to go further forward more. In fact the entire body below the head is too thin compared to the head. The face looks like it juts out like a caveman as a result

My advice is to use a reference and try to copy it. Or use a reference and trace the basic skeleton of it first, then draw over that.

I will say the hair looks pretty good for a quicker drawing.

Go on /ic/ torrent and watch Brent Evistons and/or Proko's course on figure/gesture drawing. You won't understand anything about figure if you only copy flat diagrams.
>I don't want to get into poses too quick
You should. Practice gesture drawings from various poses. They will suck ass first, but in several weeks you'll get human figure.
Copying flat diagrams will get you nowhere. A person leans a little bit and bends their legs - and your proportions go out the window. Work on visual library and draw many different poses instead.
Also keep in mind that it will take you literally hundreds and hundreds of figure drawings until you are somewhat adequate, so don't be upset if your first 30 figures are shit. Just look at Pawel, he grinds figures autistically and still looks permabeg.

notice how the original has exactly no sharp corner in the lines on her body, they've been rounded out to a fault or when impossible just lost and not completed (like around the outer wrist); you on the other hand have a lot of jagged corners.
the original is curves curves curves with no identifiable edges,
your lines also kind of kill some of the gestural elements: look at the backwards curve of the finger, or the back and forth motion of the forearm. see picrel for some of the elements that first come to mind at a glance

I started learning to draw aggressively with exercises, tracing, drawing figures with shapes. I thought I shouldn’t continue until I can draw a figure perfectly in any position from my mind. Well I took a break from drawing every day and now I feel stuck. So for this one...I am pleased with the body (in that I feel I have improved with measuring the width and it's MUCH easier for me to construct now, only taking like 10 minutes max for me to do), but my god the head is too friggin wide and big.

There are other issues with it, but I figured it was worth sharing, any critiques?

Also side note, I actually skipped on drawing yesterday, so I dunno I felt a bit off when drawing despite only having a day's break. Regardless, it's easier for me to construct bodies though my method is still far too imperfect and I have a LOOOONG way to go still.

Also try to intentionally slow down and do your lines in one go, if it’s wrong that’s fine. The scratchy lines are because you’re going too fast. If the line is wrong slow down even more but don’t bother redoing a line more than twice. It’s better to just finish a figure incorrectly and accept that, then redo the whole thing if you want it “right”, practice is practice and you’ll get faster and better.

i just got back into digital/got a new tablet recently, traditional is fun for me but it kind of encourages me to draw less because i don't like to use up my good pens/drawing notebooks on basic exercises, so having a tablet is helping me do more warmups, if nothing else, before jumping into the main drawings. not particularly proud of this one, but i tried to get it done in under 3 hours, so for a relatively fast drawing (i normally take 1-2 days to finish), it came out good in comparison to my norm.
