Well bullpup rifle designs (the magazine behind the grip) allows the barrel to be longer while keeping the rifle overall length the same or shorter than other rifles with the magazine in the middle. Oh, uh, magazine is what holds the bullets, plebeians call it a clip. The longer the barrel the more energy the bullet can get from the explody powder that is propelling it throught the barrel. (Excess explody powder makes the flashy out the barrel extra big). This will make it fly further, faster, be less affected by wind and hit harder.

The reason why the USA stuck with the "clip in the middle" design of the M16 and M4 (they're in all the movies after 2001) is because "can't hold the gun to the shoulder to aim because the "clip" will hit your pouches/vest" which is what they said but really it was because the company making them had the proper money and political connections that pushed them on the military.

I'm saving a lot of these keep going.

To add: There's been a trend in militaries of using one general rifle for as much as possible (same with tanks and everything really). Things like shotguns, submachine guns, and smaller rifles are outmoded by this. So there is a need for the one rifle to be short enough to use in vehicles and indoors, and to be handy enough in general.

Yes, Americans have lots of myths about it that are readily disproven by all the militaries who use bullpups as their service rifles, but there are some disadvantages. Increased complexity can make them less reliable and harder to maintain, this is more of an early bullpup problem as most were disasters. And for mechanical reasons their triggers are stiffer and deeper than conventional rifles, though this may not have any impact on the shooting ability of soldiers who are not used to firing anything else, and more of an American civilian observation (not as pleasant to shoot).
