"just draw" is something that should be said to someone who doesn't draw at all. if you are actually already draws than it doesn't apply to you.

>> No.7030659

They are all phony aphorisms with little bearing on reality. You simply do what needs to be done.

All the "justs" are for people whinging about not being good and it turns out they haven't drawn in months. Build a habit first.

just draw is the best because it's the hardest for permabegs to weasel their way out of. If you elaborate any further the permabeg will start arguing instead of drawing.

Have you not drawn a single thing in a week+?
>Just draw

Have you been drawing every day or at least every other day, but feel like you've plateaued and are not sure how to take your drawings further?
>Deliberate/focused practice

Have you been stuck on a specific thing that you know you suck at, but avoid doing (like hands or clothes) because you're trapped in your comfort zone?
>Just practice

Based, need to take a screenshot of this and add it to the top of the sticky

Neither.
>just draw
Leads to stagnation and comfort zone.
>just (deliberate) practice
Leads to burnout.

It's all about balance.

I'm learning the piano along with drawing, and I think the difference in mindset is interesting

I think the technical aspects of drawing could benefit from this sort of deliberate practice, while the intuitive/creative ones might just require mileage / trial and error

Instead of thinking about one catchphrase versus another as distinct paths from point A to B, think of all of them as a cyclical motion which spirals outward the more you practice all of them.

obviously deliberate focused practice is ideal.
but that's hard to do and most people burn out.

just draw works because you're drawing what you want, as long as you're consistently drawing you're consistently moving forward, even if it is at a slower pace.

just practice works because it's a way to casually improve yourself without having to deal with the headache of a regime and figuring out exactly what you need at any time. you're still practicing, but it becomes more of a relaxation technique and habit rather than the hard stressful work of focused practice. things like gesture drawing for example.
