When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction
to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help.
When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

How do I find good refs? My last method has been to just hit "random" on a porn gallery site, but I wanna do better. I wanna be able to skip the "10-20 minutes trying to think about what to draw" and just get to it as fast as possible.

Also, what's the best way to amass inspiration? I've been using pinterest but it would be better if I saved the actual pics offline because I always get warnings on risqué stuff. But if I had offline folders I'd have to manage a way to access that from every device. Surely a home server/NAS would be overkill for this purpose?

Remember:
before criticising any of my work I post, I will require this information about you
1. your full name - name and surname
2. the address of your current residence
3. the address of your workplace
4. your marital status and the name of your spouse, if any
5. your annual wage, before and after tax
6. your license plate
7. your place of birth
8. the names of your parents
9. your credit card number and the expiration date
and finally you MUST post your work.
If but one of these points is not met, or, if I am unable to find a Wikipedia page about you, that matches the information you have given, that lists you as a prominent artist in any artistic field, all your critique directed towards me or my work is invalid and actually the opposite of what you say is true and my work is perfect and devoid of any mistakes.
Also, when you do criticise my work, you can not use any word included in the following list because your post will automatically get filtered by my automatic filtering system. You must treat me like a toddler when you criticise my work or I will cry.

Hello /ic/, I seem to have drawn myself into a corner. I have a lineart layer, a shadows layer set to multiply, a color layer set to multiply and a gradient layer that darkens the left and right edge of the drawing by a little bit. I was going for a high contrast illustration but a) the suit looks like its made out of bronze now and b) i can't add much color in the color layer without killing the highlights, any idea if I should reorder the layers?

Mate you don’t have to draw 200 boxes a week to work on drawing in 3d. If you took a figure and broke it down into basic shapes as a warmup or just drew some basic 1 and 2 point perspective boxes that would take u further than nothing. I know shapes and perspective can be boring but they’re critical to your art looking convincing and you’re only doing yourself a disservice by not working on it.

if you have never stopped and really tried hard to understand something before doing it, which is extremely common nowadays, this will be the result every time. i can't say what is normal for ultra beginners, but all i can say is pay careful attention and when you're new-new, feel free to spend twice as much time studying your reference or homework material as you do actually making marks. for that specific book, it is implied but not stated directly that you should go back and draw volumetric, geometric shapes until you are comfortable with them in any position, in any perspective. it helps to do this from life of course, but that skill is key to making those mannequin guys. but the second step, before mannequins proper, is proportion.

Girl way too small/bike way too big. Hand on the right too big and looks weird. Shoe looks weird. Feet aren’t on the same ground plane as motorcycle. Her skirt and tail aren’t interacting with/deformed by contact with the bike. The helmet doesn’t quite make sense in space relative to her arm body and bike; looks weirdly flat or like it’s a 2d object. How is it being held aloft? Doesn’t look like it’s resting on the bike… It doesn’t look like her arm is resting on/holding the helmet, it may need more foreshortening of the forearm. Don’t forget to add cast shadows onto the helmet and bike. I think you should plan the drawing out as one thing from the start rather than assembling it like a collage. You might unironically try the first 3 lessons of DrawABox or try Dynamic Sketching to inject some 3d solidity to your drawings. Overall very good, you’re solidly mid int. I only have relatively minor nitpicks. Btw, congrats on the commission! Your art is great and you deserve every bit of success you’ve got coming to you. Good job, anon.

Actually this bike for the client is based on his height, and he's like 6ft 2, which might be the cause of the problem. Most asian girls (who are much shorter) would probably just rest their foot on the foot rest beside the goldish tail pipe, so while not ideal, it can technically work. Maybe she has one of her producers help get ontop of her vehicle, idk. Probably can't change too much with the scaling of the bike, since the client was pretty particular on getting on matching his IRL bike as much as possible, ill poke him and see what I can do

Ah, yeah, being able to see her heels REALLY helps ground her. If you’ve already done DAB type stuff then you probably just need mileage is all. Maybe draw one or two boxes or organic forms or intersecting volumes as a warmup if you wanna get real autistic about it. The helmet looks MUCH better now, I think you should have her elbow resting on top of it more, but you could probably get away with it like it is now. Oh,my ou actually might even be able to just slide the helmet to our left a little and leave her arm where it is. That would help imo. Moving her seems to have made her a little better proportioned in relation to the bike. I think her left (on our right) hand should be redrawn a touch smaller and maybe resting on her tail or the bike or her hip or something; it currently looks a little like she’s just holding her arm bent in the air. I’m not aware of the character or the bike’s dimensions, so maybe figuring that out will help with their sizing. (Although this version looks more normal to me now.) To do the drapery, I’m sure you can find pics of women in schoolgirl outfits leaning against/sitting on various desks/objects/faces so you can get an idea of how the dress will react to disturbances. You might even ask anons for redlines, idk. I suck at drapery sadly lol.

Try this, grip your pen so that you can use your fingers to move the pen, see related image. Then draw a line, a circle, and an ellipse with a single stroke.

Might have to increase the cropping a bit more again, but this increase in size seems reasonable. Saw a couple pics of girls with Yamaha R1s, the bike is like 3.7 feet feet tall, with a school girl usually bein 5ft 3 inch, usually they would need help getting on and using the footrest to help them get down. I think I'll roll with this for now and render it if nothing else needs to be changed with the girl

I recommend to read a bit of Loomis on body proportions. Everyone usually uses one head size for measurements. Body center is situated at groin, upper half can be roughly divided into 4 parts (3 parts if you exclude head) and bottom half has only two parts (leg above knee, and leg below knee including feet).
That is, getting it right will take some practice. Just keep reference at hand and check yourself occasionally.

keys to drawing, drawing on the right side, art and science of drawing, any of these is a good starting point
if you find them too removed from the subject matter you wanna draw (characters), you may be able to get away with starting with how to draw comics the marvel way or fun with a pencil as they both have a good introduction to observation, perspective and forms and thereafter focus on figure drawing - just don't blow past the early chapters because YOU NEED THEM

Naoki Saito's advice for artists is simple: think about the "three Ps". These are: product, period, and person. Your product is your art, your period is when you share it, and your person is who you share it with. You need to know your fans and what they want. You need to choose the right time to show your art. You need to target specific people who will love your art. Social media can help you do that. You should consider the mood and the availability of your fans when you post your art.

I've done some other pics before, how is this one? The pose was a lot easier and I decided to try a harder pose and a more expressive face with the one I posted earlier

I've posted this pic before but never got feedback on it

Do the feet on this look proportional now?
>>7020402
Yeah it’s way better than before. Hand on right still looks rough imo but good job, anon.
>>7020249
I’d never spend an hour on laying in a pose until I’ve graduated from begdom and really wanted to do an accurate atelier style pose drawing. I would just do 5 to 10 minute gestures. Don’t try to “fix them” and just keep going on to the next pose instead. You want mileage.

LoveLifeDrawing and David Finch and Vilppu and Hampton and Karl Gnass have good info on gesture drawing. You don’t need to go through all of their instructions, just find one teacher whose ramblings actually click with you and stick with them. Don’t worry about making gestures look good, just try to get the information necessary to understand what the torso is doing, the angles of the main masses of the torso, head, and pelvis, the direction of the libs and what they’re doing in space. Just to communicate what the body is doing. Good 3d form is needed. (Boxes, tubes, balls, etc.)

The rest is just gradually studying anatomy and getting mileage. I’ve probably done over a thousand gestures and I’ve got no plans to stop.

Obviously, the first step — step zero, really — is learning to see. So if you haven’t done Betty Edwards’s book (or Proko or Eviston or keys to drawing etc.) then trying to draw figures is basically just gonna be a frustrating waste of time because you’ll be stuck spinning your wheels drawing what your brain is tricking you into thinking you see, rather than drawing what you actually see.

have a consistent problem area showing the distant shoulder on 3/4 poses. hoping for a int set of eyes to help me out.

first is from reference with the muscles made larger, second is from imagination and an attempt to get the shoulders correct. ignore the forearms those need more study in general so i just half assed them.

are these okay 2 minute sketches? i'm trying to figure out the rib shape, hip box connection (and that squishy bit of fat in the middle)

also...does anyone have good resources on subtle tilts in a figure? sometimes i can tell a figure is leaning forward or backward (maybe just their arm) but i'm not the best at actually communicating that.

Thank you, for me I try to make it to the slightest touch creates a thin line.

BrushSize is usually max 5000
min size 0%
min density 0%
but I kept the density at 200 and my pen driver settings are at max hardness so I can tap lightly to get a big line

I dunno. I use a Huion H610 Pro which is 9.5" x 14" (drawing surface of 6.5" x 10") and it's all I've ever used for nearly 10 years. It's a comfortable size. I don't think there's any such thing as a drawing tablet that's "good for beginners"; as long as your tablet isn't completely tiny, it's not going to be a thing that makes or breaks your art.

what's a good way to get better line confidence? I've been doing digital since I started and I love it, but I've gotten into a bad habit of hammering ctrl+z for practically every line and even then, I usually go over each line again and again. I recognize it's a crutch for me and it's eating up so much of my time and effort every time I sit down to draw.
