The problem is that there's a threshold in which the ranting becomes active bitching that stops being productive and only serves to build up negativity that affects you in the long term, and it shows given the way some people in this thread address the subject.

You'd think a lot of people here are just letting go steam or voicing a concern of sorts, but in reality they are just stroking their egos and pointing at fingers. I used to be really negative about my art
That was just the norm. Then I was drawing with this kid and she was all excited about what I drew. She said I was really good and on instinct I said I wasn't that good. She just claimed up and was super dejected and I realized I just told a kid who thought my drawings were good that they weren't good. I said that shit to a child. How are they suppose to take that? Are they measuring theirs up to mine? Were my compliments to her art a lie if I don't think mine is good?

If you can go back to your previous pieces and not immediately cringe at how awful they are, I'd say you've made it. If you're going through your past images and saying, "yup, that still looks good even now", or "I totally nailed that style I was going for" and so on, then you've made it. Especially if it's for challenging poses and you have a longer and longer line of pieces you are satisfied with.
