Marvel doesn't pay it's pencillers a salary, though. They get paid a page rate, at least $150 a page. It's not like the money they get from marvel is all they make, they're generally doing other shit too.

Yup, this. There's a market for originals for example, which IIRC can pay more than the Comic job, there's commissions, selling drawing courses
