nothing matters in itself, as far as I can tell. respectfully, it would help to clarify in regards to what you're asking if closely referencing matters. are you asking about authenticity, quality, public favor, skill development, something else?

She's always mostly drawn that guy, female characters like in the OP are rarer for her.

Does it What?

>Does it matter?
Nothing matters in the grand scheme of things, but yes I suppose if it matters to you, you should probably care. Especially if you're serious about Drawing.

>Does it matter if?

when you're not popular and still learning how to draw no one will care
when you get popular its something they'll chastize you over it if you continue to do it

look at butch hartman, people think he traced that mikasa just because he's drawing from someone else's art

You'd get more mileage out of figure/life drawing if you want to get better.

If you just want to copy for fun go for it but don't post without credit.

>> No.6987341

No, so long as you don't share the copied shit without credit, but I don't really understand why you would waste your time doing that. All you're showing the world is either an embarrassing downgrade or a rude upstaging of some amateur with good ideas.

Moreover, the artist of the drawing on the right takes a shitton of reference photos and edits and traces them meticulously. This is already a stupid practice but there's nothing for you to learn from the process of mindlessly referencing something mindlessly traced.

Look at her art and figure out what you like about it, and then learn to do that specific thing on your own, using better references as your foundation.

other anons are being a little bit overdramatic for what you drew, but there's some truth in there to be aware of:
1. If you're doing style/copy studies, you should be up front and let others know. otherwise it comes off as you trying to steal/copy others' work. I don't think that's the case here unless you posted the left image without context.
2. when first learning, there's nothing wrong with copy studies. if you have an artist whose style you love, do everything you can to learn from them. you'll never match 100% and eventually you'll change up the formula or incorporate other artists' styles that you like. in the end, you'll build up your own style that will be all yours
3. in the long run, figure drawing studies will help more than copy studies so you can learn to build your own characters. once you can draw your mannequins consistently, it'll then be that much easier to implement any stylization with different proportions, rendering techniques, etc. because you already have a good base.
